1-0 - Townsend

I know Townsend is the man of the moment, but if we can keep it tight so Villa leave space as they push up, could be set up perfectly for Lennon.

Eriksen on for Holtby please....

Quite happy with Ericksen coming on...but felt Holtby was one of our few bright sparks for the first half hour (I like the lad).

RE Lennon: it's a perennial debate, isn't it. I have been a big advocate of Townsend ever since he first made an appearance at 1st team level - he has a sense of urgency, is always looking to make things happen and is very direct. But Lennon seems to get behind more, and now he has real competition could up his game again, like he did when Bentley arrived. Happy with our options.

A good result yesterday. I was also pleased that both Townsend and Soldado scored their first goal for the club (not counting penalties, in the case of Soldado).

I also thought AVB's team selection was better and much stronger than the West Ham game.

After a very shaky first 30mns during which I thought " here we go again", we decided to play. The second half was good, we passed well and played well. Great display again from Andros and Paulinho. The best thing is of course,  Soldao's first "real goal". Keep them coming!

I think Townsend is very happy Bale was sold. Talk about grabbing a chance... Well done, lad!

I totally agree with that. We sold Bale for £85 million but had Townsend waiting in the wings for nothing.

A bit early to start comparing Townsend to Bale, but he has taken me by surprise, for sure.

Of course it's early and I actually didn't compare them. To be honest, I don't like comparing players at all. I'm just saying that Townsend has quickly established himself as a first XI player and brings much-needed flair and spark to our tactics.

There is no harm in speculating. As things stand and the way he is playing he could go far. Of course we will have to wait and see, but it is looking promising.

I think Bale will come more of an interest if he doesn't do so well at Real Madrid. Cries of silly move will be heard throughout this forum and beyond.... but then again...

Why do you feel the need to post in old topics... That are dead.

On a tea break and all I read is the Metal/voice show.

Have a break and get some fresh air ;) :hide:
