Title: Gallas
Post by: Biggs on August 11, 2010, 07:34:48 AM
Quote
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is considering signing former Ars*nal skipper William Gallas to solve his defensive crisis.

Redknapp is desperate to get a centre-half by the end of the month because of concerns over the fitness of Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate.

That has led him to weighing up a shock move for Gallas, who is now a free agent after failing to agree a new deal at Ars*nal this summer.

While the Frenchman's links to Spurs's bitter rivals could anger some fans Redknapp believes his experience will benefit a squad who will play in the Champions League for the first time if they overcome Swiss side Young Boys in a two-legged qualifier this month.

ALot of talk about this over the last couple of day... I'm not sure how much is in it. Would you accept Gallas at the Lane?

I have to say, I reluctantly would  :-[

I could accept us signing Bellamy who is a total psychopath but a good player nevertheless. I could never accept us signing Adebayor, Gallas or any other French/ex-Ars*nal b******. Simple as that, I don't care how good players they are, they are arrogant and troublemaking.

I'm not sure I want to. Actually I have pretty much given up on speculating who'll stay and who will be sold. As long as the news doesn't appear on the official site, I don't believe it. Makes my life a bit easier.
We can shout here that Harry should sign this or that but the fact is that Harry doesn't probably visit this site (he should, though  :P ) and will buy or sell players he sees necessary.

If we could get a better player than great, but surprisingly looks like we are struggling to get anyone this window. My only gripe about the player is as illustrated by soccernet he has been involved in a succession of arguments and has demonstrated  a petulant streak which can translate from dressing room to pitch. Being stripped of the Ars*nal captaincy in November 2008 after he broke  the trust of the dressing room when criticising team-mates in public.

Well the other day Harry confirmed said that we are in talks with his people, and that wages aren't an issue
"I like Gallas," said Redknapp. "I think he's a great free transfer.
"It's a possibility. He hasn't been greedy at all. His people have rung up and we spoke about it.
"I thought at the start of the year there were three fantastic free  transfers available - David James, the England goalkeeper, Joe Cole and  William Gallas.
"He's a player I think would be a good player, he's an experienced  player. He's played at the top level, he won championships with  Chelsea."
Redknapp dismissed his Ars*nal connections as a problem and added:  "You can go on for ever about that. He played for Chelsea as well. We  put too much importance on that all the time.
"If he comes in and plays rubbish, then the crowd will slaughter  him. If he comes in and plays great, they will love him. That's  football."

So looks like his wage demand aren't going to be a problem,he rated ou chances as 50/50 but after the Macca game, according to the daily mail Harry Redknapp says he would like to take Craig Bellamy and William Gallas to Spurs but fears that he will miss out on both this summer, they failed to confirm it by actually backing it up with a quote from Harry saying that it is unlikely

OMG he played for Ars*nalhole so what, he played for Chelsea first for 5 seasons, 4 seasons Ars*nal, you guys want Hleb who played 3 seasons for Ars*nal. Gallas has played 57 games in CL, that is a wealth of experience, especially compared to some of our players who have played CL Pavlychenko who in comparison played a meager 8 CL games, Gio 1 start 4 subs, Woodgate 5 games but will he even feature this season? Modric played 4, Robbie Keane 4 also, Corluka 2. Gomes and Cudicini are the only ones with decent CL experience with 35 games and 18 starts 1 sub, respectively.

I personally think Gallas will go abroad as I don't think he will come to Spurs, not being funny but would go to work somewhere to be booed and have insults hurled at you constantly. No matter how thick your skin is that kind of abuse will get to you, and with a dodgy mental attitude like his it won't take long before he would be sucking his thumb and spitting his dummy out !!!!

Gallas is the perfect CB for our circumstances..... the defensive horror-show on WTuesday will only have convinced Arry even more of our need to have Gallas in the team (especially when King is out)...

if we get CL, chances are that King will not be able to play in either the Prem and CL for at least 4 months, cos he cannot play 3 games in 7 days week in week out..

in that situation... and after Tuesday who can dare argue otherwise.... we will need an experienced, respected by peers CB who can marshall the backline and provide the leadership there we so obviously lack in King's absence..

get Galllas.... get him now!

maybe Gallas will just sign the 2yr deal and if he doesnt get a fair go from the supporters, then he will just let in the odd goal or give away a penalty or 3....

he'd have to pick his matches tho to do that for maximum impact....

of course I hope he doesnt do so.... but I'd find it hard to resist myself..

Assuming that he did that Gareth. Does that show his lvl of professionalism and would you rather have someone else after he did that?

Im really getting restless with this rumors about him joining us though. Theres even news he is doing medical now! OMG...

If this goes through, ill be reserving my judgement until we fight legooners and if he scores a goal and put smug on le'gooners id reconsider my opinion on him. For now, ex-Gooner status "Hate".

Look, if it happening now...we got to put our feeling behind us now and trust harry.

so what if Gallas has played for Ars*nal, this is no different than sol Campbell going to sc*m

We going to have to support Gallas now, because it looks like he's our player now.

This whole playing for Ars*nal thing is childish and played on too much.

I don't like Gallas on a personal level but he is a great player and we need a new CB desperatley and what better deal is around than an experienced quality CB on a free transfer.

He's captained teams, got CL experience and and proven in the prem, I think it's a great deal if we get him.

unfortunately, there are alot of Spurs 'fans' like CountPuchi whose default position on this (and Life in general) is 'hate'.....

Campbell was welcomed into the Ars*nal fold very quickly and never felt he had to be better than everyone else just to be classed as average-good in the team..... I wonder if Gallas will be given the same benefit ??..

if he isnt, he will feel the hate and the undue pressure that comes from it, and the feeling will quickly translate to the rest of the team.... if that happens, I can see our performances tinged with fear and negativity and we will go back to the standard under Ramos just before Arry took over...

we will get exactly the team we will deserve...

Harry knows he needs good cover for Ledley and Gallas on a "free" is a perfect deal. Don't think you can compare it to Campbell leaving us. He was life long Spurs player. Gallas was only at Arse for 4 seasons I believe.
Title: Re: Gallas In Talk With Spurs?
Post by: Derry-Yid on August 21, 2010, 01:56:45 AM
I was a tad skeptical about this when i heard it(Ars*nal   connection obviously)..but the more i think about it,it could be another master   stroke by Harry.

We all know Gallas has a temperament and he's   prone to the odd outburst but he has the experience at the top level of   the game and thats something the back 4 at Spurs dont have atm..if we   can get past Young Boys on wednesday night his experince could be vital   in the group stages.

He's taking a pay cut to come to WHL..so   he's not coming for the money..he'll sign a one-year deal, with a   guarantee of an extra year if he starts 30 games..it shows that the man   has balls too..to cross the north london divide..even Wenger said the   other day that Gallas received "an exaggerated bad reputation"(thats the   media for you again) while he was with them..people are kicking up a   whole fuss about it..is there really any need for it?...As Harry said   its not the Yorkshire Ripper he's signing.

He could turn out to be one of the best free's of the season imo.

I posted the link to Harry's on skysports interview confirming Gallas is signing, fiinally a few of you are coming around to him,  in the circumstances if we can't get anyone else in, he is a player with a wealth of experience, especially in CL, and we desperately need cover at CB, he can also play LB, or RB apparently.
Title: Re: Gallas In Talk With Spurs?

I think Gallas will be a perfect signing for us...its free for a start which is a bargain for the quality type of player he is....he has experience,he has played against the best and he will be perfect cover for us as we def need it !!

Also from what i have read he is taking a pay cut and only signing a one year deal....and if he plays well then i suppose he will get another deal????

I know he played for the Arse but as soon as ANY player pulls on a Spurs shirt they will get my full support and if they do really well then they will always continue to get my support no matter who they played for !!!

Although I am not overly happy about us signing Gallas, there has been no annoucement yet or any official confirmation. Anybody know why or what's going on ?

Seeing as it's happening I would like to get it over and done with so we can move on and accept him as a Spurs player !!!

Ok accepting that Gallas is signing and is availbale to play everyone is assuming that he is coming as a CB or CB cover.

Am I right in thinking that when he was at Chelski he played LB, does BAE need to be worried ?

Maybe 'Arry might be looking to shake up more than just the CB's at the club...... just a thought !!!

you really are clutching at straws now arent you..

Gallas at havski wa so flaming good that as well as partner that gimp Terry to make him look good, he could also play anywhere else in the back4 incl LB occasionally.... his 2nd position for the last 4yrs tho has been at RB, but he mainly played as a CB the vast majority of games..

Gallas will play at CB for Spurs, as he doesnt have the legs of a 21yr old to run up and down as a fullback week in week out (also we have better fullbacks than he would be)..

Gallas will play as a CB, and Dawson will be the most likely player to get benched (but maybe not immediately)...

apparently he wants the contract to incl. a timeshare on Arry's mansion at Sandbanks in the close-season.... Sandra's having none of it !!

What are you on about 'clutching at straws' Gareth, it's a sensible question to ask, seeing as you being his biggest fan in the whole wide world has said he was that flaming good.

Wind your neck in and try and actually answer a question without mentioning Dawson, Corluka or anything about our lack of pace at the back. I was trying to explore the possibilities that a versatile defender would give us !!!
Maybe Corluka and BAE need to watch out !!!

Oh and what's this lack of legs that Mr Gallas has, surely that's the one thing he was signed for along with his defensive capabilities or are you just contradicting yourself.

Title: Re: Gallas
Post by: Gareth Keown on August 21, 2010, 02:26:21 PM
youre so obviously confusing speed with stamina..

Gallas still has speed that a top-class CB needs, but he no longer has the stamina at 32yrs to run up and down the right flank for 93mins of a match (very few players even at 25yrs do, as fullbacks need to be the 'marathon-runners' of the team and cover the most ground - well, attacking FBs anyway)..

Gallas will not be asked to cover either fullback position because we have ample specialist-cover in Corluka, Walker, Naughton, even Rose has played LB..... as well as regulars BAE, Bale and Kaboul (my 1st choice RB)..

Gallas will compete most for the rigtside CB role.... that means the end of that slow in thought/movement guy we have there currently...

we need cover as I can't see Woody coming back from another injury and King can only play once a week as a rule so if Daws or Bassong gets injured we have problems and the transfer window is running out, got to trust Harry on this even though Gallas captained the Arse

well , once it goes through, to be honest i think its a very good deal cos , its a free transfer, a very experienced and good cb so i think now woodgate will probably retire he is a very good replacement and i think like redknapp sed if he scores one or two goals, makes some really good tackles the spurs fans will love him , and i agree , i hope he does well because in the end it will just make tottenham better which is what we all want , tell me what you guys think ??

I think for that reason and many others that Gallas is a shrewd signing.

He's free, hasn't lost that all important pace and knows how to win. The fact he can cover left back is a bonus. I like the experience he can offer for the Champions league also (should we get throught that is).

Granted he's well travelled in London but I don't think he holds any love for them.

I don't think we should have to see him at left back too often given we have BAE and Bale.

Former Ars*nal captain William Gallas has completed his move to   arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur on a one-year deal, the club have   confirmed.(http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/0309/williamgallasliverpool20100210_275x155.jpg)William Gallas: Four seasons with Ars*nalGallas, out of contract after leaving the Gunners in the summer, had only to complete a medical and agree personal terms.
Spurs   have also retained the right to extend the contract of the 33-year-old,   who also played in the Premier League for Chelsea, for another season.
Gallas   will join a select band of players who have turned out for Ars*nal and   Tottenham and the move is likely to be controversial with some fans of   both north London rivals.
Sol Campbell suffered terrible abuse after allowing his Spurs contract to run down  and defecting to Ars*nal on a free transfer in 2001. Tottenham fans have still not forgiven the former England defender.
But   Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said on Friday: "It's all cobblers. What's he   [Gallas] done? It's not the Yorkshire Ripper I'm signing, is it? He's a   footballer, he plays football.''
Tottenham full-back Benoit   Assou-Ekotto also said he had no problem with the club signing an   ex-Gunner. "Look, Darth Vader could come to Spurs. I don't care," he   said. "If he does his job well I am happy for Spurs."
France   international Gallas was part of the Chelsea side which won back-to-back   Premier League titles after moving from Marseille. He joined Ars*nal in   2006 and captained the team in the 2007-08 season.
