Title: If You Were AVB.................
Post by: Metalanimal on October 29, 2013, 05:15:03 PM
To be fair this one is going to take some thought before I post my selection but I thought I would ask the questions regardless.

With the wealth of talent and ability that we have available to us if you were in AVB's position what would your starting 11, formations and subs bench be for the EPL be?

All I am decided on at this point is the back 4!

Not sure of my whole section, but I would try 2 upfront at some stage.

Which 2 up front mate, I would actually try Soldado with Ade, reasoning being Ade's ability to hold up play and be the target man i think would suit Soldado big time.

For tonight's game against Hull play Adebayor and Defoe up front
against their back 5.
Yep agree in the League against the right teams Ade and Soldado would be worth a punt.

The problem isn't either one up front or two up front but midfield who is not servicing them regularly. Soldado or Defoe aren't getting the ball on a regular bases. I presume AVB is going to try wingers to solve this problem.

If Hull try defensive football again it might be worth trying Ade... and yes probably Soldado as well.

Considering this is the captial 1 cup I dont want to see any of our key players on the pitch as we have Everton at the weekend and that will be very hard for us.

If I was AVb I would try this in an EPL game:

GK - Lloris
RB - Walker
CB - Dawson
CB - Chriches
LB - JVT

LW - Siggy
CM - Sandro
CM - Eriksen
RW - Lennon

CF - Ade
ST - Soldado

Bench - Dembele, Lamela, Haughton, Paulinho, Holtby, Friedel,

We just have some much quality to choose from in midfield.

I have to admit I am not keen on him but why we are paying him we may as well see if he can do a job, on his day and if he can be arsed way better than Defoe, trouble is we have all seen way to much of the cant be arsed Ade!

Unless we sell him we haven't seen the end of him yet. Personally I would like to see him and Defoe sold in the transfer window and two new strikers brought in.

Most definitely We must not make the same mistake as last year, or we will pay the price once again.

After watching the game against Hull, in the Cup, I think it is time for Defoe to go. Ade also has gone past his sell by date. Another good striker will put pressure for team places.

I think Kane has put his case forward quite well to be given an opportunity!

I very much want to see another striker come in during January, not sure if Pato is right for us major injury issues. I would very much like us to get Hernadez from Utd guy is just what we need!

Why is Lennon starting?  he was so poor vs Hull last week.  We have a crazy amount of talent sat on our bench which gives us options.  Would like to see Erikson come on asap!

When I saw the team sheet I was very surprised he started. However, I am presuming he used him - with Townsend - to try to feed the strikers more.

Unfortunately Lennon has lost the ability to do any of the things he used to do. I really think he's finished with us.

I don’t. I think he still has a lot to contribute. I also think that Lennon is not fully fit or playing up to the standard he was last season. But he is getting there.

Lennon is not match fit or sharp IMO, and I really do not understand why he has had a starting place in the last 2 EPL matches, we have far better options.

Instead of Lennon what player should we field, IMO its siggy and Eriksen should be starting ahead of Holtby.  Holtby has had some great games for us as a sub

For me on Sunday, Holtby had an outstanding game, his work rate couldn't be faulted and IMO he is definitely worth his place, the problem as I see it is, that at the moment AVB is playing 5 across midfield, Lennon/Paulinho/Sandro/Holtby/Townsend and whilst this enables us to dominate the midfield, it means when we go forward that we are crowding each other(getting in each others way) which means that the final pass is breaking down. There is no doubt that we have a massive amount of talent sitting on the bench, it is just a case of finding the right mix. At this time I really do not think that Lennon is worth his place and, whilst I really like Paulinho, he does tend to drift in and out of games, I would like to see Lamela given a chance on the left-side replacing Lennon, with Eriksen replacing either Sandro or Paulinho. The trouble is there are probably 4 or 5 different permutations.

I've been impressed with Holtby since he first came here. He is a fighter. If we don't play somebody as talented as him he will leave. The same with Eriksen.

Whilst I agree Holtby's work rate is exceptional and he has had some great performances for us creating a few goals, I would like to see Eriksen start a few successive games. Perhaps Eriksen and Holtby together in midfield would bring us another option.

Mr Finch I think you are bang on with what you have said about 5 in the middle of the park and the issues it is causing, it is certainly helping our defense but hindering our attacks.

I think we have some way to go to get our formula right to make the most of the vast talent we have, its a great situation to be in really, to think we are 4th (joint second on points) and we havent really got going yet!.

Voice saying a player needs to start due to their talent or they will leave is a bit gash, you could say that of any player really! It all depends how they view their career and how much they like being at the club.  Players know todays game is all about a big talented squad to succeed in all comps as much as possible so all know they cant always start!  No one can speak for a player regarding leaving only that player them self!

What I meant was that his talent fits our style and could feed the strikers. I also agree that Holtby and Erikson could and should be in the same team together.

Eriksen out for 4 weeks, and Danny Rose still out with a toe problem seriously just cut ya toe nails ya little sick note.

I would like to see us play to win today instead of playing to avoid defeat, lets see and attacking formation and line up and go for it!

Without 3 points today we will remain in 7th and top 4 will start to look a bit unlikely as the teams above us are gathering pace.

Yes, we've got to start off in an attacking mod. But them in the back burner.

I see that Hart isn't starting.

We've lost the same amount of matches as United and City and they are both favourites to win the league. We are 4 points behind second placed place Liverpool.

But points are slipping away we are now ninth, with another defeat we risk dropping to 10th! Right now we are a mid table side, in a mid table position not playing to our strengths, to say we were well beaten today is an understatement, City may as well have not bothered fielding a goal keeper!

If you think we are going to turn it around next week then your medication is too strong, if we play like that again then we will have our arse handed to us in a sling by united and they ain't even playing well !!!!

The only way too turn this around is to get rid of AV numpty B he hasn't got a clue!!!! Playing a high line against two pacey strikers, might of well just plump for 10th or 11th now !!!

And who said we will play that way again? If you’ve got it in your head that you don’t like AVB then no matter what he does he will be a loser in your eyes. Even if we win the double.

You don’t get rid of a manager who has only lost 4 games and are 4 points behind second placed (Liverpool). Ars*nal won’t sustain their position so looking at it logically we are in a healthy position.
Even though we lost 6-0 on Sunday we had 53% of the procession. Yes we had a bad day but there is no reason to panic at the moment. We are still in all cup competitions. The time to revaluate the situation would be at Christmas. Not now. However, I am sure you will be praying that Spurs lose their next two games so that you can ram it down my throat and say how right you are.

Spurs need to start playing with 2 up front move the ball quicker  and go forward stop playing at walking pace pick the same players to get some consistency for a start.

The problem they have is both Defoe and Adebayor are both way out of form in January they both need to go and new blood brought in.

This season is going down hill very quickly  but really it should not be a surprise defeat by West Ham and Newcastle a scrapped win against Hull hanging on at Everton.

Long way to go but can anyone honestly believe AVB can turn this round?

No Voice I really don't want Spurs to lose the next two games what I want is for people to see that the man who is supposidly taking us to next level isn't up to the job !!
The football we play is boring, we defend to high, he makes changes for no good reason, his tactics seem to confuse the players, he won't play in form players the list goes on and on and on...
Saldado isn't getting any service, we buy a fox in the box then don't get the ball into the box for him to attack, Defoe scores whenever he plays but he won't play him instead he brings in Adebayor who's been training in the reserves and hasn't started this season !!!
After yesterday he slates the players saying that they should be ashamed of the performance they put in, that would be the players he picked playing the tactics he put in place!!!

So you are telling me that this is the man who is going to sort things out and not to panic, wake up and smell the coffee the warning signs are there we are going backwards and AVB is the man driving the ship !!!
I don't care about points and places look beyond that and see whats happening to our club we are in chaos there are very deep running problems in the squad several players have come out and voiced their discontent !!!

I have had a firm grip for last two seasons and I have not changed my opinion of our manager since day 1, he has had 18 months or so and he has done nothing so far to make me change my opinion.
As for me not posting I was getting fed up with the candy coated posts and blind faith being shown and the way any critical post or post that wasn't backing the manager was slagged off and the persons intelligence was questioned !!!
As Voice is so fond of quoting everybody is entitled to their opinon......... as long as they agree with the majority.

I think it is to early to make judgements. Remember; Ferguson was a game away from getting the sack. Last year he had a reasonable season. This season we are only 12 games in with 4 defeats. Let us wait until Christmas to revaluate the situation.

Exactly; you are entitled to your opinions. As I am; at the same time you are quite welcome to point out my flaws (in what I said), as I am pointing out where I think you are wrong. At the end of the day it is then to the reader to make their own judgement. Different point of views are healthy.

I've been reading this. But this is just paper talking and stirring up trouble; to sell more papers. If AVB wants such speculation to stop then it is in his hands.
