Title: Selling Crouch?
Post by: Biggs on August 02, 2010, 03:20:08 PM
Loads of talk today about us maybe selling crouch.

What do you lot think about this ?

I don't think we should sell him, I think he offers something different up front and hes a great squad player.

I would hate to see him leave. He had a good first season for us, he scored important goals and can usually turn games around. Also, I doubt we would make profit from this sale, so I can't see why Levy or Harry would consider selling him. The season starts in a few weeks time, so there is no time to re-shuffle the whole squad.

No thanks. Crouchy is a decent player and can give us a different approach. Good defensively too.

Want the big man to stay...

Only if we can replace with a better player and at the moment I don't see better available, plus he gives us an option if we need to chase a game or use height against a certain player in the defence (i.e pulling off onto a fullback to isolate him etc etc ......)

Have to agree with ugs on this one, why sell unless we get better first?

Like to see him go tbh. Has no pace and changes the whole tactics of the team when he plays. Long balls up to him when chasing a game smacks of complete desperation. If the price is right and we have sufficient replacements I say bin him.

Impact Sub at best, But must stay unless we get another similar player. We might have lost matches like Birmingham without him.

True!, not many players willing to be stuck in the "impact sub" category at his age. :nope:

Like a few have said before me, i'd would only consider selling Crouchy IF we got a better replacement in.

Yes Crouch makes us "more direct" (long balls - esp by Dawson) but he can hold the ball up well, great control of the ball and knows where the net is.

And yes he's probably in impact sub more often than not, but in a physical match Crouch can be a real asset.

Also, as i have already stated, he is a good weapon to have when defending free kicks, long throws and corners (vs Stoke, he was emmense on on the edge of our 6 yard box repelling anything Delap threw at us). When, Keane, Lennon, Modric, BAE and Defoe all play we have a serious lack of height in the team, especially with the Prem being such a physical league and free kicks and corners becoming the lower teams only real oppertunity to hurt us. Crouch gives us a real height at both ends of the field.

Harry has laughed off the specualtion Crouch is leaving so i'm still happy  :D

I have never really rated him, it's time he went

Though KKK You gotta remember, Birmingham bought a new striker which is 2 inches taller than crouchie!!! or was it 1 inch. In anycase i doubt we will sell him. Though what i would love to see is the ball being played to his feet instead of his head. He seems to have a great 1st touch.

Reports say Joe Jordan does not expect Peter Crouch to leave.

"I don't think we will let him go too easily,"

"We had a lot of competition when we brought Peter in and he has done very, very well," said Jordan.
"He is a player that has proved himself at Tottenham."

Isn't that exactly the sort of comment you would make to the media if you wanted to keep the fee up. I think Crouch is staying unless they get the right money for him.

Why would we let him go?..we need all the players we can get as we're in 4 different competitions this season..they will all get there chance..saying that, if we were to bring another striker in..one would have to make way as imo its not possible to keep 5 strikers happy..if it came down to that it would be Crouch for me..i think Pav has over taken Crouch in the pecking order..Pav should be starting before him..the word ineffective springs to mind sometimes when talking about Crouch.

As always don't sell him unless we can get a better replacement. Its no secret that we want a front man who is capable of playing up on his own to allow us to pack a midfield away from home in CL games. Other than Fabiano, I'm not sure I can think of anyone who's available though.

Hes not my favourite , but no reason to sell without a quality replacement!
