I am looking forward to this game tomorrow. Will be very cold but worth it. I think we will win something like 3-1.
I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

Looking at our subs bench we have 5 midfielder, 1 keeper and a full back fresh out of school, not great if something happens to a defender or striker.

COYS lets win this one as all we seem to do on euro nighst is draw and set records for disallowed goals.
THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

The trouble with only needing a draw is that like it or not, there was no urgency in our play. We played a low tempo possession game, with the odd scare at the back, until Dempsey played a ball of pure class for Ade to finish with similar style.
Much the same in the second half really, until our shortcomings at left back were yet again exposed. Their goal seemed to kick start us, and after a few wobbles Dempsey put another great ball through to Defoe, who was unlucky with the post. A great free kick from Walker, great header from Dempsey, game over.
Lastly another great ball through from Lennon, and a superb finish yet again from Defoe.
It was the kind of night that in the past, we might well have stumbled and ended up losing.

The plusses for me were Walker Verthonghen Caulker Dempsey Defoe and Adebayor. The left side still causes concern, as Naughton is pretty hopeless in this position. I think we really do need to strengthen that. Bale is a huge loss. Also we cry out for a creative midfielder, one who can score some goals too. Maybe Dembelee will step up to the mark ?

To summarise our urgent needs in January, I would say a good left back, and creative midfielder. Another striker would be the icing on the cake. Get these 3 and a top 3 spot could be a real possibility, I think our squad is that close to Chelsea, MU and MC.

RSS61  Another good result today. Didn't see the game so I can't comment on individual performances, but I think it is worth remembering that Naughton is a work in progress, I think, he will in time, become an accomplished LB,(Assou-Ekotto hopefully will be back soon) you have to remember he is still learning, and he does have 2 good teachers in Bale and Assou-Ekotto and of course Verthonghen. But of course time will tell. Do you not agree?

LB is Naughton's second position, he is a right-footed player and much better at RB.

Riff sometimes right-footed players make better L-Backs and vice versa.

Yes, why not. Naughton just isn't one of them. Just like Bale is not the same player on the right side.

I think he is a good player with lots of potential. But he struggled on the left yesterday, both defending and going forwards, especially with no Bale to link up with

RSS61,
  I think a lot of experienced LB's will struggle to go forward without Bale to link up with. Give him time and I am sure he will improve, we shall see.
