Post by: Chelmsford_yid on December 28, 2010, 08:29:56 AM
Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe will begin a three-match ban for his sending off against Aston Villa.
Defoe's absence means Spurs will recall Roman Pavlyuchenko or Peter Crouch, while Luka Modric should play despite suffering cramp at Villa.
Newcastle will be without captain Kevin Nolan, who picked up his fifth booking of the season against Manchester City.
Manager Alan Pardew has said that goalkeeper Tim Krul will retain his place despite his error on Boxing Day.

Having won their two previous Premier League games in the capital this season, Newcastle will hope to claim a hat-trick of London scalps against Tottenham, who have lost six of their last seven top-flight matches against the Magpies.

Toon target man Andy Carroll was the match-winner when Newcastle won at Ars*nal and West Ham earlier this term. The 21-year-old already has 11 league goals this season, reportedly catching the eye of Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.
However, there appears to be little chance of Newcastle letting Carroll go on the cheap during the January transfer window, with manager Alan Pardew insisting his side have to demonstrate a "big club mentality" and hold on to their prize asset. He will therefore be encouraged that centre-back Steven Taylor, who looked set to leave St James' Park for nothing next summer, has agreed a new contract.
Pardew, who replaced former Spurs stalwart Chris Hughton at Newcastle, has a mixed record against Tottenham. He was in charge of West Ham when they beat Spurs on the final day of the 2005/06 season, denying Martin Jol's team a Champions League spot. However, his Charlton side were relegated from the Premier League in 2007 following a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham.

I reckon Harry will go with Crouch up top today and maybe introduce Keane & Pav later on. Biggs after the game if you could post up some highlights it would be much appreciated because i cant watch the game today im off to watch Bristol City v Crystal Palace. I will keep my eye on Caulker & Rose especially and see how they are getting on. Do you think Harry will rotate the side because of the quantity of games over this period? YID ARMY

surely Pav must start although harry may attempt to play crouch in a bid to nullify carroll from set pieces which he wont do as the only good header crouch wins is usually from an unmarked/unchallenged position. Shame defoes out really, he must be gutted. If we can keep carroll subdued i would be confident of 3 points especially at the lane. PArdew hasnt a clue and is out of hid depth big time. Time will prove this. :santa_azn:

I am hoping for Pav and VdV up front, with beanpole playing we will have loads of chances and miss the lot, then they will nick it 0-1.

We may even see a 4-4-2 with Pavy and Crouch but please not crouch on his lonesome.

nearly guaranteed to play Pav ahead of Crouch (who is being cotton-wooled for a makeweight p/x role in January)...

Pav is actually the best foil currently for Vaart: who will naturally play today if his fitness warrants 2 games in 3 days)....

Actually, Crouch and VDV have linked up well.  Usually to VDV's benefit.

Crouch has quite a few assists for VDV.

I don't think Crouch or Pav are top 4 quality, but VDV and Crouch are the closest thing we have to a partnership so far.  Sad but true.

Decent performance, but a good 3 points  :santa_afro:

We should start the game with 10 men as we arguably play our best when we have a numerical dis-advantage  :santa_cheesy:

Great result by the boys...another super goal from Bale to add to his already fantastic collection.

How far can this team go?

We are looking good, yesterday I thought we wouldnt break Newwcastle down but we kept at it and did the job,  we seemed more dangerous when we went down to 10 men.

results where great for us the other day.

Ars*nal dropping points, United Dropping points. Has really tighten things up.

This year is going to be one of the best chances to push for the title, we going to have to start believing we are good enough

Thats right Biggs, we need to BELIEVE. Bring in a top class striker in January and hopefully the team stay fit and we could have a great chance. Im still not totally convinced but as the games progress i am getting more confident. We must finish in the top 4!!! COYS

After watching that game I was amazed that that Tiote stayed on the pitch.  Was proud that we stood up to their midfield.
