No slip ups here, although i still have bad memories of my last trip up to The Hawthorns where we lost 2-1 i think it was a couple years ago. VDV to terrorise the baggies please!

was VERY IMPRESSED by the WBA team against Liverpool... they were very unlucky to lose it and easily deserved a draw there..... the biggest compliment I can pay them is that they reminded me of Spurs in their style, fluidity and composure on the ball and off-ball movement...

they play a 4-4-2 (ish) system too, but lack a cutting edge so far.... we should be okay but we may need to bed in vdv and Gallas slowly.... Gallas maybe starting (in prep for CL game shortly after) and vdv as a substitute...

lets not start believing vdv is allergic to kryptonite just yet eh.....

I'm expecting that Mr Gallas will now make his debut with the injury to Dawson and I expect 'Arry will waste no time in blooding Van der Vaart in the Prem. 'Arry has a nice headache situation now having to fit so many options into an eleven man team, hoprfully he will pick a good balanced attacking side that can give the baggies a good seeing too and build some good confidence in preparation for the CL encounter.

Hmm Gallas or maybe Bassong to come in for Dawson?
I'd maybe go with Bassong as he a good defender but also he has played with Gomes, King, BAE and Charlie before unlike Gallas. I personally would give Gallas a couple more games before selecting him.

I presume King will be fit as he hasn't been involved with England this week.

Maybe have all 3 new signings, bar Sandro on the bench for this one, i would like to see VDV come on at some point depending on how we are playing and where the game is going.

Van der Vaart played for Netherlands (substitute) so I presume he is more or less match fit and could make his debut. Not sure about Gallas' match fitness, though, so Bassong could partner King. Gallas will definitely get some playing time soon, though.

What about Gomes, when is he expected to be back?

they could wheel on Arry's mo-in-law for Dawson for all I care.... Dawson out for maybe 3 months  (I can smile cos he will be on full-pay and get to recover comfortably... perhaps catch up on his reading, that sort of thing)...

Gallas will get a nice little settling-in period without the constant chorus from the stands demanding Dawson get off the bench at every slightly less than perfect play he makes... it really has been a great week what with 1 thing then another..

Really? I'm not sure. Personally i would put Gallas straight in...Unless he's planning on playing him against W. Bremen. But i think gallas should be able to play both

just heard Barcelona might be making a player + cash bid for Dawson to replace Pujol in the long-term, in January..

Xavi + 5m euros mentioned.... they really want Dawson it seems..

lucky for us we have Gallas now to cover for him.... phew..

West Brom are without the suspended James Morrison following his red card against Liverpool.   Paul Scharner played a behind-closed-doors friendly with Bolton and could make his first Baggies appearance.
Tottenham's Jermain Defoe and Michael Dawson picked up serious injuries for England and are ruled out for three months and two months respectively.
New signings William Gallas, Rafael van der Vaart and goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa could come into the team.

The fixture list has been far from kind to West Brom on their return to the Premier League. Having Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham in their opening four matches of the season is hardly ideal, and it does not end there with a derby at Birmingham and then Ars*nal to follow.

That said, they impressed at Anfield in their last league game and Roberto di Matteo's Baggies side look better equipped than in previous seasons to stop their boing-boing existence between the Premier League and the Championship.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is as proud a patriot as anyone, but even he must be cursing the cross of St George after Michael Dawson and striker Jermain Defoe suffered worrying injuries for England during the international break.
Given that news, and Tottenham's typically up and down start to the season, Redknapp must be delighted with the wheeler-dealing he did in the transfer window.
While new signings William Gallas and Rafael van der Vaart bring undoubted pedigree, their feisty characters could keep Redknapp busy. He had to look no further than van der Vaart's reaction to being substituted for the Netherlands in midweek when he rubbed his eyes in mock disbelief, swore and then openly criticised coach Bert van Marwijk.

Im sure Harry will play Gallas today, not sure he should be made Captain though, hope to see VDV come on in the second half.

I'd be quite happy for Gallas to captain us in King's absence. He's the type of player who will organise the defence and lead from the back - just what we require without King and Daws there!

We will miss Dorans more than you will miss your injured players.  Keane always plays well against us, he will get at least one goal.  Should be an open game and we should be satisfied with a draw.  Score? 2-3

ppl who think just cos vdV is playing, that we will be a 4-5-1 are bordering on STOOOOOPPPIDD..

for the simple reason that as Modric is playing LM, he will come inside allowing Bale to overlap and play virtually as a midfielder on the leftside.... so why the heck would Arry ask vdV to play there too ??

4-4-2 with vdV upfront just left of The Pav....

looking forward to this ploy with moistening anticipation... :P

It is a 4-4-2 but VDV is playing left Mid.  Modric is behind Pav

if its a 4-4-2 how is Modric playing behind Pav... surely there needs to be a striker alongside him...

and since when has Modric played the 2nd striker role even close to well enough ??

Damn Rafa is slick. If Lennon had made the shot off of VDV's little backheel I would've creamed my pants. What a dimension he adds!

Im just going off the formation it showed before the match started on the Live feed. and it showed VDV Left and Modric just behind Pav

but now the match has started i see they got it wrong and Modric on the left mid and VDV is playing second striker

VDV had his first practice with the team on Thursday and he is the best player on the field right now.
I've got mixed emotions about that...

We're gonna see Bassong before this is over. Gallas' fitness clearly isn't there yet. His poor technique allowed the West Brom player to take advantage of him and draw that yellow card. Get that man on a stationary bike!

much prefer Bale at LM.... we looked too flat in midfield with neither of the 2 CMs really capable of making up the extra man between the lines to support the attack.... this can be okay if we play with more pace on the wings from midfield to forward lines (Bale at LM)...

vdV played too withdrawn in the 2nd half, maybe lacks match-fitness still.... Pav looked isolated too often..

we REALLY need to get Gomes back.... or let Pletikosa play.
Title: Re: West Brom 1-1 Tottenham
Post by: WilsonJet on September 11, 2010, 05:02:56 PM
Well Carlo pulled his s**t together but no one else showed up in the 2nd half. There were times when they would give the ball away and just settle back into a defensive position rather than try to win it back. It was evident how much they missed Dawson's ability to win the ball in the air.

ONE point from Wigan & West Brom. We've got to do better than that!

And I agree with you, Gareth. It was obvious when VDV ran out of gas. He was impressive up to that point and then just disappeared.

We should be out of citeh's sight by now two poor performances against two poor teams, hardly acceptable Gareth. If we are going too realise our potential these are games we should be winning one way or another !!!!

Really disappointing result. Van der Vaart looked good buit ran out of steam. Gallas is clearly not fit and his poor performance proves it. Čorluka wasn't too good either. Whatever people say, we are not ready to play with a lone striker, I think Keane should have started because he clearly added some bite.

And the fact that ManC only managed a draw against Blackburn doesn't get us very far either because the next time we lose or draw a game we should be winning they will probably win.

What has happened to Lennon, Palacios and Corluka!? They all look really off the pace and have not had good games in ages! Pav up front on his own, i knew this would be a bad decision from the start. I would have played Keane from the start he came on and looked hungry and sharp but shame him or Crouch couldnt find a winner. We need to perform better and focus for the whole 90 minutes each game if we are to get into the top 4 again. Early days though but dropped points count at the end of the season.
