Title: Five in England squad
Post by: RiffHard on March 24, 2015, 05:44:31 AM
Kane, Walker, Townsend, Rose and Mason have been called up to the national squad and could feature against Lithuania (qual.) and/or Italy (friendly). It seems ages ago when so many of our players were in England squad. Judging Townsend's performances this season and Walker's quick dip in form, I don't think they merit the place, but as usual, the bench isn't very long for England. Rose has been one of our better players this term and fully deserves his call up, I just wonder, why was Luke Shaw called up in the first place at all... What are your feelings?

As long they don't come back with injures please, I wish them well

Not so sure about Rose personally. Needs to be more consistent in defending, and also passing. Nearly as bad as Walker at times, which is why most opponents now attack our flanks with alarming success.

Cresswell for me is better all round.

I am pleased that those players have been picked. It is a good advertisement for Spurs policy in bringing young players on.

I also agree with Southend Yid and hope that they come back without injury. Let us hope they do us proud.

I would say that kane is the only one who actually deserves to be there .Walker , rose and mason just aren`t good enough or consistent enough in my opinion .Still , it does shine a light on our youth policy.

What an entrance for the lad. He's one of our own!

You couldn't have written it better. Not only starting his first full England match - coming on as a sub - but scoring in just under 2 minutes. Brilliant! And of course England won by 4 goals. But we must remember it was against a poor opposition.

Agreed Voice, the opposition was rubbish, but their keeper had a very good game, and Harry's header was a blinding one that only just beat him. Many a debutant would have fluffed their lines, but not Harry. Pure class in the making.
Also an inch perfect cross from Sterling, something that we sadly lack.

I was reading that some top clubs might come in for Kane and test Spurs resolve in keeping him. Of course they won't sell him, but at least it shows that Kane is on the map.

Welcome back Spursnetwork.

I thought that England's opposition was bad, but the team did well and congratulations to Kane. The next match will be the real test and let us hope that Harry starts the match.

I am looking forward to our next home game.

I thought you deserted us Jane. Glad to see you onboard.

I went to the England game and it was one of the best I've seen in a while. Our youngsters are coming on fine. We are the top of our league so should go to the finals. But I do agree with what everybody said, poor opposition. England's next game should tell us more about how things are. I also hope Harry starts.

I didn't watch the game but I've read that Kane played the whole game,Walker came on at half time. Townsend came on in the 70th min & scored,Mason came on for the last 15 mins & got a assit.
Finished 1-1.

I wonder why Townsend (and Welbeck) always plays well for the country, but is pretty mediocre for his club? Does Hodgson know something Pochettino (and Moyes/Wenger) doesn't?

Well to be fair, Pochettino has been playing Townsend lately, even though he has not been great. Maybe his great goal and performance last night will give him the confidence to return to the form he showed before his injury. Also Masons touch under pressure to set Townsend up was impressive. And for once Walker looked quite solid.
How good was it to see 4 Spurs players celebrating together after the goal !!

He scored - Townsend - a brilliant goal. Saved England's bacon.

It was great to have a few of our players in the national team and they did very well, I hope Pochetino recognises that Townsend needs to stay out wide, and that Kane can play with a second striker.
