I'm gonna be pooing my pants come Saturday (I'll be polite). I know we've been saying for the past 2 weeks how vital our games are, but we are REALLY down to the wire now. This'll be the 1st Spurs game in ages that hasn't been on the box won't it? I s'pose we have been quite spoilt this season with tv coverage, but then...who provides the best entertainment in the league? :D

Should we really be worried about Berbs going if we don't qualify for Europe? Has he said that he is unhappy? Could it be a case of paranoia on our part?
Anyway it is irrelevant becaue all we have to do is win the last 4 and we are in Europe. If we blow it from here then we don't deserve to be in Europe. Quite simple really. 4 games to prove how much we have improved and how worthy we are. Man C Charlton ,Blackburn anfd Middles if we can't get 10 points of them then do we really deserve to be in Europe?
Title: About Boro and Berba
Post by: goods7 on April 25, 2007, 10:17:17 AM
Boro is somewhat weird team, I think.
They made a draw with M-U. at OT on last game which is usual for them. But, they are somewhat low in standing of EPL. Weird...

About Berba, I think he will stay in TH. If he move to other team, he will have to wait for another year to fit in the team which he doesn't want.

I guess TH will play for UEFA cup next season also. As I heard, it's down to 7th in EPL this time. I think we will make it.

Yeah all games are a must win now. Jol said we needed to win 4 out of the 5 so we cant afford to loose any. If we win them all i think we could get 6th

Hopefully the boys will put in another great performance, the points are vital at this stage and we still have absolutely everything to play for if we want to avenge what happened against Sevilla.

Our European challenge is in our hands, lets finish the season on a high starting at Boro.

5th place is in sight.

Think about it.

Everton vs Man U, Bolton vs Chelsea, Reading vs Newcastle.
If these teams loose, which two of them have high chances of doing, and we win at boro. We will be 1 point behind Everton and Bolton with a game in hand.

It might be hard, but its definatley doable.

Yeah we can move really close to 5th, esp as those around us have tough games.

Spurs to claim a vital away win

I'll go with that, the lads will grind this one out.

Title: Boro, a must win game!
Post by: little_o on April 27, 2007, 05:12:50 PM
We must win this weekend against Boro. If we fail to get 3 points, then I feel that any chance to grab fifth spot has gone. I still feel that we will gain either sixth or seventh spot and automatically qualify for UEFA. However, if spurs could grab 5th  spot, then  consistency  has been displayed and a clear message to all those other teams outside the perennial top four

Middlesbrough have received a double fitness boost with defender Abel Xavier (back) and midfielder Julio Arca (groin) both back in contention.

That means Middlesbrough have no major absentees through injuries.

Paul Stalteri is back to bolster Tottenham's defence, which is missing Anthony Gardner, Young-Pyo Lee and Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

Midfielder Teemu Tainio is out with a sprained ankle and striker Mido is struggling with a groin complaint.

Middlesbrough (from): Schwarzer, Jones, Davies, Xavier, Parnaby, Taylor, Woodgate, Pogatetz, Huth, Riggott, Boateng, Arca, Rochemback, Cattermole, Downing, Viduka, Morrison, Johnson, Yakubu, Lee, Christie.

Tottenham (from): Robinson, Cerny, Chimbonda, Stalteri, Rocha, Ifil, Dawson, King, Zokora, Jenas, Malbranque, Lennon, Ghaly, Murphy, Huddlestone, Taarabt, Defoe, Keane, Berbatov, C Lee, Barnard.

Tainio out is a shame, would have liked his midfield bite. Reckon Stalteri should come back at LB or give Rocha another game there?

TEAM NEWS

Teemu Tainio is out of the trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday but Chris Hughton hasn't given up hope on him appearing again before the end of the season.
The midfielder picked up an ankle injury against Ars*nal last weekend and joins Anthony Gardner (hairline fracture, fibula), Lee Young-Pyo, Benoit Assou-Ekotto (both knee) and Mido (groin) on the sidelines for the Teeside encounter.

“We’re hopeful Teemu might be available for the final three games of the season,” reported Chris on Thursday.

“Anthony and Young-Pyo Lee remain out, as does Benoit, but he’s working hard on his rehabilitation and he’s not too far away.

“Mido has a slight groin strain and is not in contention but we’re also hopeful he’ll be available for the last three games.”

One plus is that Paul Stalteri looks set to be available after a thigh problem. “He’s trained and is very much in contention,” added Chris.

Though i don't think Lennon will score :D

Though your right in saying that if Downing and Viduka don't perform, they dont win. So hopefully we will just shut them out the game.

Anyone else reckon that defoe should get a chance and start? I saw berbatov getting really angry last week with how deep we were playing and the lack of support! There is not much chance of that with defoe playing!

Yeah, I made a mistake on my starting XI. I think Hudds will start instead of Steed with Lennon on the left and JJ on the right.

Yeah but what's the point of being a fan if everytime we play one of the top 4 u immediately assume we'll lose! U have to have a bit of faith, we've already proved we can beat Chelsea this season, there's nothing to say we can't win any particular match!

Mate i think theres just a bit of difffernce between having faith and being unrealistic, saying every weak 'oh we're gona win easily today 3-1' is unrealistic.

Im trying to be rational about this.

I predict a close uncomfortable win.

Traditionally we dont do very well away to Boro, but we have an advantage in as much as we will know the outcome of both Everton and Bolton and will know what that means if we win, added motivation I hope.

However we have played more games and players are looking a little tired and more it seems each squad is progressively more makeshift at the back.

We have the edge up front, but they are defensively stronger than us at present.

It all makes for a tough game to call but, knowing our fate and with Everton presently losing and Bolton holding Chelsea its there for us to take. By now the leage table doesnt lie, I cant see it being comfortable but a late win in a narrow game will do for me.

Very close at the end and fair play to Boro they pressed for their two goals, not allowing us to get on the ball for long periods valuable points on the board but could have been made academic earlier on.

I thought we made hard work of this. At 2-0 we looked very comfortable but when 'Boro scored we sat back and gave them the initiative. Robinson kept us in the game on a couple of occasions although on the whole it was one of our better performances defensively. A finely crafted goal by the whole team should have sealed it but 'Boro came back and it made for a nervous last few minutes. Another 3 points closer to Europe and with our game in hand we may even manage 5th again. Oh and we can probably close the book on the goal of the season now. Brilliant strike by Berba.

ventriloquist "were sitting too deep yet again"

taimedowne "I thought we made hard work of this."

Totally agree with those points I thought we were gona have another draw on ourhands!? Why cant our midfield not sit back and carry on dominating possesion, just not sends as many players forwards??? To be honest, we were lucky with the superp goal and some fine stops by robbo. You could see Berba getting annoyed again and i can truly sympathise with him, he knows how good we are but knows that we always sit back too much - Berba for manager! :dft012:

But still in the 1st half we completely dominated and had the game in our hands, whenever we go forward we look as though we can create a chance...

Great result. Great to see Keane doing the job and can we all get behind Robbo now. Crucial save at a crucial time.

As for Portsmouth, what on earth are they playing at. A victory over Liverpool was not in the script that I'm reading from. Time for them to get on the right page and lose their last couple. The 'ex Spurs over 35's put- out- to- pasture XI' need to pull their heads in. Mind you Bolton seem to be deviating from the master plan as well.
Bottom line is that our fate is still in our hands. Or should I say it is in our game in hand, With one obstacle cleared there are three hurdles to go and if we clear them then watch out Sevilla cos we want revenge. Although as they are likely to be in the Champions league that was quite possibly a meaningless comment.
I am worried about Charlton though. With the results going as they have for the bottom clubs then they have every reason to believe that they can avoid relegation, and the last thing we need to face right now is a desterate doomed team who have just been thrown a lifeline. Nothing asdangerous as a cornered rat. If we can get past them and avoid our big moment nervres then we should get past the final two.
In truth we should be rejoicing that for two seasons now our interst has been kept at fever pitch till the very last game. The days of mid table mediocrity are behind us.
Key factor to get right is the complete ban on lasagne for anyone fron now till the end of the season.
I suggest though that we celebrate the end of the seaon and getting back in Europe with a lasagne dinner.

Berba's volley-shot was wonderful. But, I knew he can do such thing from his previous plays. I rather want to point out he nowadays dribbles well. He shows skinning a couple of defenders rather easily.

Return of King makes defense better clearly.
