Not going to be easy no, but very winnable all the same. If we perform to our proper potential then we should be the winners of the tie. Lets hope it third time lucky for cups this season

Hopefully Sevilla will have La Liga on their minds as they are doing really well in that. My score cast is 1-1, but I think we're gonna be on the back foot considerably. If we can get a score draw then get the Army back at the lane too make some noise for the return leg and show the players how much it would mean too us to have our name on that trophy again, then I reckon a moment of genius from Keano, Berbs or Defoe can win us the tie.

COME ON YOU SPURS.

Yes, if we can get them back to the lane with at least an away goal, there's a good chance of another magical european night for us all.

Tough game this one, most probably the biggest game of the season for us?

Will definately be a hard one..

I'm Going with a 2-1 LOSS, however the away goal will definately help in the second leg :D

It is definately one of the biggest games that Spurs have had to play for quite a while.

However, I shall be honest I havn't seen Sevilla play this year, so I don't know what they will play like.. Going by the position of them in La Liga though, and their players on paper, I'm slightly worried that we won't get through.

Fingers crossed still :)

I'd be happy with a score draw, or a narrow loss as long as we get an away goal. A win would be unbelievably good and would stand us in great stead going back to WHL. I feel we need to be positive and not them attack us as we need that goal! I would play Defoe, who has looked sharp recently for England and us, over Keane. I think Defoes pace and finishing is jus what we need on the counter and we need to take our chances, and Defoe has much better finishing ability then Keane IMO. I hope Jol starts with..

ROBBO
CHIMBONDA // DAWSON // ROCHA // LYP
LENNON // JENAS // ZOKORA // MALBRANQUE
BERBATOV // DEFOE

My prediction: Sevilla 1-1 Spurs - Kanoute (yes that bastard), Berbatov.
Title: Sevilla Vs Spurs
Post by: Lew on April 04, 2007, 09:01:29 AM
I agree with you mostly there mate.

However, where you would play Defoe, I would bench him and play Keane. This is because I think Keano and Berbatov work extremely well up the front together, and seem to link up alot better than Defoe & Berbatov.

I also don't think Jol will play Defoe over Keane in tomorrows game.. Defoe will most definately get a bench spot I think but that would be closest he'd get to the starting line up.

Then again, I could be wrong.

But other than Defoe & Berbatov being upfront SL mate, I agree 100% in your lineup for tomorrow. (Y)

Tottenham are an English club, Sevilla are a Spanish club. Two very different cultures of football, and each teams gameplay will be different.

Our less-experienced players may find this game tough, however fingers crossed they come through it and perform exceedingly well..

If all our key players "turn up" if you know what I mean, then I don't rate us out of winning the Sevilla game.

Post by: Chris on April 04, 2007, 01:27:57 PM
I'm an optimist! 2:0 for us. We will take their fortress with 3,000 Spurs fans:gun1: Hope the spanish supporters will be fair. Saw the semi final last year between Seville and FC Schalke. It was an extremely hot atmosphere in the ground. They lost 1:0 in the extra time, Seville went to Eindhoven and beat Boro 4:0! BUT THEY WON'T KEEP THE CUP IN ANDALUSIA THIS YEAR!!!!:spoton:

Midfielder Tom Huddlestone has been ruled out of Tottenham's squad because of a knee injury.

Ledley King, Anthony Gardner, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Danny Murphy are also injured and Ricardo Rocha is cup-tied.

Teemu Tainio and Mido are back in training after calf problems, while Hossam Ghaly returns from illness.

Keeper Andres Palop, defender Daniel Alves and striker Frederic Kanoute are all expected to start for Sevilla after being rested on Sunday.

Tottenham (from): Robinson, Cerny, Chimbonda, Stalteri, Young-Pyo Lee, Dawson, Zokora, Tainio, Jenas, Ghaly, Malbranque, Taarabt, Lennon, C Lee, Mido, Keane, Defoe, Berbatov.

I think the most likely lineup will be:
GK: Robbo
LB: Lee
RB: Stalteri
CB: Dawson, Chimbonda
LM: Malbranque
RM: Lennon
CM: Zokora, Jenas
ST: Keane, Berbatov

TEAM NEWS

Teemu Tainio, Hossam Ghaly and Mido have travelled to Seville and are back in the squad for Thursday night's UEFA Cup quarter-final, first leg.

Midfielders Teemu and Hossam return after a calf injury and illness respectively while striker Mido also returns after calf trouble.

The biggest blow for Martin Jol is the loss of Tom Huddlestone after the midfielder suffered a medial ligament strain against Reading on Sunday. "He won't be involved for at least three weeks," said Martin.

However, the news was positive on the progress of longer-term injuries Ledley King, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Danny Murphy and Anthony Gardner.

Speaking at Sevilla's Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium before the squad's training session this evening, Martin reported: "Ledley has travelled out with us, he won't be involved but might be available soon.

"Benoit is progressing well after his knee injury, Anthony is off his crutches now and progressing quicker than we expected and Danny is training again and could be involved (at Chelsea) on Saturday. Teemu, Hossam and Mido are all back."

Teemu Tainio has impressed me in games which I have seen him play in, so I have no complaints of him being in the squad.

Ghaly has begun to show a little of what he is made of, so again I have no complaints of him being there for us.

Coys.

If you ask me, I think most likely.. He was given illegible to play for the Chelsea game the weekend was he not? If someone can rectify that then please let me know.. :)

So yeah, I think he will be back in time for the home leg against Sevilla. However, I'm not 100% sure.

He might be having a shock appearence tonight. I have been hearing that MJ was trying to lead them off the trail a bit and think that it would be Chimbo in the middle when in fact Ledders is playing. Not sure what I think about this. Could work both ways for us...On the one hand it could sure up our defence and be a quality move. On the other hand it may be too soon and could get injured again.

Maybe it actually could be true then. Would you be pleased to see him playing though? I thought Chimbonda did a good job at Centre Back when I saw him play there, and I dont think it would even be a problem to sit out Ledders for this one?
Title: Sevilla Vs Spurs
Post by: Storts on April 05, 2007, 09:53:51 AM
I think we should save him for the return game at the lane next week.

It means Stalteri will be playing though so we best be wary.
Title: Sevilla Vs Spurs
Post by: dazzaTh on April 05, 2007, 10:38:57 AM
I think stalteri has been pretty solid recently when hes been called upon so i have no worries about him filling in at RB. Against chelsea in the 3-3 draw i think he had a great game n kept robben pretty quiet.

I respect him as he has been on the bench all season (cant of done much good for his confidence) kept out by chimbonda but when he has got a chance he has gave 100% and played well.

It would be awesome if king was even on the bench tonight just so we defo no he is gona be playing again soon. Whether he should start cant really say as we dont know how fit he is, he might be 100% fit now so only the staff no.

How come there isnt a king picture on he avatar things?

I do believe Berbatov is gonna punish Sevilla badly ... He might not score but he will surely be involved heavily in the goal chances creation !! The lad has been performing outstanding in the UEFA Cup so far this season. I think this is mostly because he is very hard to be handled by from defenders that do not monitor regularly every Tottenham game in the highlights or TV coverage. (Not that looking his every move makes things much more easier ...).

And what a complete load of gay c*nts their players are, if your a man i dont understand how u can make yourself look a complete tw*t n dive like that bunch of puffs, really gets me angry, That dive at the end when ghaly nudged him what a joke!

It was only a small minority of spurs fans retaliating, but they were stupid to do so. The police went too far though. But noway will we get eliminated for that.

I think we're on top because of the away goal. At the lane it will be electric, the fans will be our 12th man.

Hi chaps just to tell you what I have been told from my two sons and ex husband who were actually at the game.  Our fans did NOT start anything the police started when our fans were shouting about the penalty.  They attacked a Spurs supporter in a wheelchair and also a 17 year old young girl, she has a massive lump on her head.  They have been having a dig at the Spurs fans all day.

Other people who have heard from people over there have said more or less exactly the same thing.  They were trying to protect the guy in the wheelchair.

I think before we all start slagging our own fans off and getting carried away with media hype we should wait and see what the fans over there have to say, I honestly believe that we are in no way to blame for Robo cop and co's behaviour.

After all do we have riot police in the away team end at our matches (I think not).  Do we have 'riots' in the away end (no)

Its heavy handed policing not Tottenham fans.

WHAT... THE...:Green_Colorz_PDT_23 Well, if I'd seen that, I wouldn't be so disgusted. Heavy-handed is an understatement. They should press police brutality charges or something. Hoo boy, if this is the case, then I hope those police that perpetrated this are dismissed from their jobs. But they probably won't be  It sure changes the outlook of this game's happenings.

The unfortunate thing is, even if fans who were there go public about it, UEFA won't likely believe a word of it.

I smell a brouhaha developing over this. :gun1:

Post by: lyubokick on April 06, 2007, 07:22:16 AM
The reff broke the game. A totally imaginary penalty that really set off our boys out of concentration. 20 mins after that he was deliberately pushing our players into our half by false judgements ... :Green_Colorz_PDT_47 . They were all jumpy as result and none could perform at his best. Not to mention the whole midfield was pushed so far back they could hardly support the forwards ... not that they had a good day ... Malbranque should have come in on half time together with Ghally :-(.

And I am COMPLETELY sure we would've kicked the s**t out of Sevilla, should this penalty have not been awarded and did not kick us back in front of Robbo ... Sevilla were just SHAKY with all the action in front of their goal ...

Now, when in Bulgaria somebody wants a good result out of a though game as a home side, usually a weak referee is appointed. The weak referee is ALWAYS influenced by croud, players etc. and thus supports the home side ... So afterwards the Association bans him for 4-5 games ... So what ? There are always weak referrees around for the next though games ...

Hope we don't get kicked out, at the very least club is likely to be fined.  Ref was very poor, apart from the penalty decision, there were many other doubtful calls.  At one stage berbatov was sandwiched in the air by two players, and the sevilla got a free !!!!!!!!!! amazing:em2700:
Title: Sevilla Vs Spurs
Post by: Lew on April 06, 2007, 09:28:35 AM
The referee was a certain joke. He just didn't let the game flow at all, every 30 seconds it felt like he was giving a free kick to either team, and 9 times out of 10 it was to Sevilla. The penalty decision was terrible, Robinson got the ball with not one, but BOTH hands, and you could tell by his reaction that he knew it wasn't a penalty.

The result of 2-1 however I am rather happy about, because all we need to do now is win 1-0 at home and we go through.

Seville Report

Quote
The Club is compiling a report on the disturbing events at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville last night and would ask any supporters who were involved in or witnessed events to please pass their information to the Club. Please email Seville.report@tottenhamhotspur.com or write to Seville, Tottenham Hotspur FC, Bill Nicholson Way, 748 High Rd, Tottenham, London N17 0AP.
The Club issued the following statement last night:

The Club will be working with the appropriate authorities to ascertain the events of this evening in Seville.

Our initial reports suggest that there was no fan-to-fan fighting at any stage of the proceedings. As such we are seeking explanations as to why the police reacted in the way they did with our fans.

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have enjoyed an exemplary reputation across Europe this season which is why tonight’s events are unprecedented.

We will be co-operating fully with UEFA, the British Embassy and the Spanish authorities to understand why this has happened.

British Police, the Club's security officials, and Club stewards, supported by British Embassy officials, will also be providing the Spanish authorities and UEFA with full statements from their first hand experience of what happened tonight.

We shall keep you informed as the investigation progresses. Thank you.

Cheated.

The ref was a complete joke, his excuse for the penalty was that Robbo got the ball and then the player! Surely that is a fair tackle. Twat.

I think the away goal was very important for us. Sevilla had their strongest side out, we had no King or Malbranque starting. I am so hoping Ledders is fit, and he has one of those graceful and unbelievable performance including wiping out that arrogant bastard Kanoute. I say screw the Chelsea game, give the fringe players, and Ledders, a run out then anhilate the Spanish scum.
