An unnamed English Premier League club, believed to be Tottenham, have failed in a bid to land Russia striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.

The Spartak Moscow forward is a summer target for a host of clubs after a number of eye-catching displays for his country at Euro 2008.

His two-goal salvo against England in qualifying also remains fresh in the memory of many and it has come as no surprise that Europe's top clubs are beginning to home in on the talented 26-year-old.

His current employers are bracing themselves for a battle to retain the services of their prize asset, and have made it clear that the forward will not be allowed to leave unless their valuation is met.

It is thought that the approach from the Premier League side was around the £10million mark, an offer which falls short of Spartak's demands.

The Russian outfit also confirmed that the interested party are not in the Champions League next season, a competition which Pavlyuchenko is keen to remain part of.

"We have received two offers. One of them is from an English team," said Spartak's general director Sergei Shavlo.

"Since it's not a team playing in the European Champions League, we are more likely than not to reject their offer."

Yeh, he did miss a lot of chances. But he does look a decent player.

However, I don't think there's any point in signing him I'd prefer to have Bent tbh.

Spurs to sign Garcia

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Luis Garcia from Espanyol.

Reports emanating from Spain suggest Spurs have beaten off interest from Benfica to sign the Spanish international.

Negotiations took place on Wednesday night in the Ciutat Contal with the player's agent Juanma Lopez, together with Espanyol's lawyer Vicente Montes.

Following a successful meeting, the player is set to finalise personal terms with the North London club before flying to England next week to undergo a medical.

Tottenham have been after another striker since allowing Jermain Defoe to leave the club in the January transfer window and Luis Garcia's versatility is a key factor in Ramos' desire to sign him.

Benfica's Quique Sanchez Flores was also keen on the 27-year-old, who was Espanyol's top scorer in the league last term with 13 goals, but the lure of the Premier League has proved too strong.

Ramos has been linked with several Espanyol players in the past, including Carlos Kameni and Daniel Jarque, but Garcia is the first that he has actually made an official move for.

Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o says he has received offers from Chelsea, Tottenham and Inter Milan.

The Cameroon international has travelled with his Barca team-mates to Scotland for a pre-season tour, but has reportedly claimed there has been interest in his signature.

He told Corriere dello Sport: "I have a few important offers. Which ones? Chelsea, Tottenham and Inter."

Spurs assistant manager Gus Poyet has previously said the club are not interested in signing Eto'o, while Inter coach Jose Mourinho's priority is to bring in a midfielder, rather than to bolster his attack.

Meanwhile, the striker's agent says Eto'o could stay at Barcelona, if no suitable offers are received.

New Barca coach Pep Guardiola has stated that he would not stop the former Real Mallorca forward leaving the Nou Camp before the close of the transfer window.

"One can not rule out Eto'o remaining in Barcelona next season," Eto'o's representative Jose Maria Mesalles told Sport. "If there are no bids, he will stay.

"We have offers, but they do not convince us for various reasons."

Redknapp has tried to sign the Welshman before and, at the end of Wednesday’s 1-0 win at City, the striker was spotted having a quick word with Redknapp. With the lure of Champions League football, Bellamy could consider a return to London, though Spurs would struggle to match his £80,000-a-week City wages.

Javi Marquez (Espanyol). Estimated cost: £8m
According to reports in Spain, Tottenham are looking to sign Espanyol midfielder Javi Marquez. The 23 year-old playmaker has become one of Espanyol’s most important players this season, renowned for his excellent technique and long range shooting ability and his style would be suitable for the free flowing midfield encouraged by Redknapp.

Redknapp has been a keen admirer of Benayoun since his days as a West Ham player and with the Israeli struggling to break into the Liverpool side under Rafa Benitez and with Champions league experience he will appeal to the manager.

The son of Peter Schemichel, the goalkeeper was at Manchester City but was lured by the big money on offer at Notts County. Now available for nothing, Redknapp is understood to be targeting him as understudy for Heurelho Gomes.

Joe Cole (Chelsea). Estimated cost: free.
A player who has so much to offer could be available for nothing if Chelsea fail to offer the England midfielder a new contract. Redknapp had Cole at Upton Park, knows the player well and would jump at the chance to sign him for Spurs.

With doubts remaining over the future of Jonathan Woodgate’s career, and with Ledley King getting no younger, Redknapp may sign another defender. Richards is a versatile defender, operating in the centre or on the right or even in midfield.

I agree. I would Definatley take Micah Richards, I've been banging on about him for ages, he was once Engs first choice RB, which would come in handy considering how much we've been strugging without Charlie. J.Cole on a free would be brill, the only problem is where would he play, and when, considering we have Niko and Luka already at the club, unless Bentley goes of course. Even then I doubt Cole would want to come here and be in the same situation that he is in at Chelsea, not starting week in week out.
