UEFA CUP QUARTER FINAL 1ST LEG - Thursday, 12 April 2007 - White Hart Lane
[/B]

Biggest game of the season imo and one which is definately within our grasps.

If we do manage to win it i cant see us being stopped on our way to UEFA glory :groupwave reversed:

Wont be easy though and will the return of Ledley Kinghave any fial say in the matter?

I think Jol was right to rest the stars on saturday as they will be crucial to the game and hopefully a 3-1 spurs win :groupwave reversed:

can't say I'm optomistic, I think its just a natural reaction being a Spurs fan after the disapointments of the last 15 odd years.

If we win I will be over the ****ing moon, but please please don't rush Ledders back.

Seville's Last Game

Quote
Our UEFA Cup opponents Sevilla missed the chance to leapfrog Barcelona at the top of La Liga on Sunday.

With seven changes to the side that lined-up against us in the quarter-final, first leg on Thursday - including the strikeforce of Kanoute and Kerzhakov on the bench, both were used in the second half - Sevilla were held to a goalless draw by Racing Santander. It means Barcelona stay top despite losing at Real Zaragoza on Saturday.

Seven changes baffles me, they still have a huge chance of winning la liga. They obviously see winnning the Uefa Cup as their main objective for the season.

We really really really need a 2 goal win !! I am sure Keano and Berba will be on their best in that game, hopefully so will be Lennon and Malbranque !! And we so desperately need some quality midfielder push and chances-creation on this one !!

Hopefully, Berbatov trows in one of the goals - it is important for his self-confidence as striker and thus, for our future games. With Ars*nal and Bolton's heavy schedule, we have a chance to sneak up to at least fifth place !!

Sevilla goalkeeper Andres Palop will not be fit in time to face Tottenham Hotspur in their UEFA Cup quarterfinal, second leg match on Thursday, the Spanish club said here Tuesday.

Palop aggravated a left calf strain during last Thursday's first leg, which Sevilla won 2-1.

His absence will be a big blow for Sevilla coach Juande Ramos as Palop has been one of the inspirations behind Sevilla's stunning season and they are the only Spanish side still contesting three titles.

thats alright for us then :D

We should just go for it. We have nothing to lose so we shouldn't sit back.
Fingers crossed King's back aswell.

King's back!!

Young-pyo's out, but chimbo can play his part at least for defense.

But, it will take some time for king to fit in squad well. Anyway, i think we should get him in.

come on you spurs!!

If Kings ready we have to play him. I believe this is a perfect game for him to step into. He's a big occasion player and wont let us down.

TEAM NEWS

Ledley King is back in the squad for tomorrow night's (Thursday) UEFA Cup quarter-final, second leg against Sevilla at the Lane.

The skipper has been out with foot problems since the win against Aston Villa on Boxing Day but is named in a 20-man squad preparing to meet the La Liga title challengers.

It looks like a case of perfect timing as well with fellow centre-backs Anthony Gardner injured and Ricardo Rocha ineligible for the UEFA Cup having played in the Champions League for Benfica.

With left-backs Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Lee Young-Pyo (both knee) also out and Paul Stalteri (hip) a doubt, Martin Jol faces a defensive headache as we attempt to pull back a 2-1 deficit from the first leg.

With so much defense troubles King has to appear :-(. He is a big figure and inspires confidence in the defense. Hopefully we get an early goal in order to ease our play and hit them on the counter :-)

Post by: COYS on April 11, 2007, 04:19:30 PM
yeah that would be good, but look what happened last time we got an early goal but still ended up losing.

i suppose that was away and i can't see us losing at the lane.

Does any1 have a massive flag (like liverpool's), they can bring 2 the game? So that the appearance can match the sound...
Title: Injuries!!! OH NO
Post by: THWH90 on April 11, 2007, 06:22:30 PM
Oh ye by the way if all injuries are true then this is are defence:

Ifil Dawson King C. Lee/Gardner!

Coz Chimbondas got a knock as well as stalteri so both are doubts!!!

Stupid ref, we should have had this game dead and buried...

But Assous back soon and chimbondas just got a knock so we'll be fine for prem...

Wouldn't it be something if Spurs do to Sevilla what Man U did to Roma? It would be perfect retribution.

Just as long as Stally doesn't get caught coming forward like he has done on occasion :p

"Ledley says he's ready, so he's in the squad," reported Martin on Wednesday.

"He said he wanted to play against Chelsea two weeks ago but we said 'no' and that has worked out better because he's had good training sessions and now he feels he's ready."

Martin gave us an update on all the injuries. "We hope to have Benoit back in two weeks and Anthony is progressing well. Tom is running again and he could be back in two weeks as well.

"Lee Young-Pyo is out for Thursday with a knee ligament injury and we will seek a second opinion on his injury on Friday. Danny Murphy played for 70 minutes for the reserves and Paul Stalteri has a problem with his hip, we will make an assessment on him tomorrow."

If Ledley says he is ready he is ready. As he missed the Chelsea game it MUST mean he is playing tonight. It says nothing there that Chimbonda is out, anyoone have a reliable source on this? This would be my team with Chimbo and Stalteri fit.

ROBBO
CHIMBONDA/IFILL // KING // DAWSON // STALTERI
LENNON // JENAS // ZOKORA // STEED
KEANE // BERBATOV

What can I say, absolutely gutted.

At least we went out fighting in the end. Great second half performance. But with players playing out of position defensive mistakes are always likely.

We must now put all of our effort into finishing well in the league, we need European football next season.

Best atmosphere in ages.

Was brilliant, and the 'WAHEY' King got in the starting line up read out was breath taking

Bloody pathetic 1st half, brighter 2nd half but tbh the Ref and Sevilla's playacting ruined a good game.
Title: Disappointed...
Post by: goods7 on April 13, 2007, 04:23:19 AM
I didn't see the game yet. You know, it was 3:30 am in my country.

YPL's out had some kind of undesirable effect on defense power.

King's first game after return... So, it is likely to take some time to have good defense also.

They are strong team. We know that. Our defense was not so good. It couldn't be good.

Thus, the result is reasonable. But, still disappointed.

The first 8 minutes killed us. If we survived the opening changes it would have been different as we grew in confidence. As I said in the other topic whether it be nerve or one game too far it was not too be.

But all is not lost, secure UEFA Cup quali in the league, Ledders has returned. Next season our players will be more expirienced, with some new quality  players and a strong starting XI we will do it my friends. Keep the faith.

Just seen the Man United goals vs Roma in the 7-1 battering, why is it Man United and Chelsea always come out on tops, when is it gonna be our turn for a bit of ****ing glory?

Carrick the mother****er scored 2 awesome goals from outside the area, we need a player that can do that, someone from the midfield that can hit the ball and find the top corner.

Plus I watched the 2nd half highlights on You Tube and we should have won comfortably, if Dawson and Berbatov had converted their chances, we would be in the semi finals now, plus the momentum would have carried us on too finish the job.
Title: Spurs Vs Sevilla
Post by: THWH90 on April 15, 2007, 09:06:26 AM
We dont need carrick no more. We made 10mil from him so he basicly paid 4 zokora and most of berbatov. This is the real question what would rather have zokora + Berbatov + pay £2mil or carrick? Thats an easy 1 2 answer... If wed sold jenas instead 4 a large sum, iwould have preferd it but jjs young and we need 2 give him time, newa whenevr jenas plays we seem 2 pla well... And zokora against sevilla was immense, he might be even better than lenoon! at dribbling.

Title: unlucky or slow start
Post by: topspursf on April 17, 2007, 10:20:11 PM
what would you blame for the loss to seville.  we could all blame the refereeing desicions but we really need to look into our own performance and see how badly or how well we played. the slow start was the main fault for me.  but defoe was almost talismanic when he came on he was superb but wasted chances by berbatov and dawson had both those chances gone in we would have made perhaps one of the greatest comebacks in european football.
Title: Spurs Vs Sevilla
Post by: Dimitar B. on April 17, 2007, 10:21:08 PM
Yep, topspurs.

The start was why we lost.

Steed's stupid own goal and the following 10 or so minutes of poor defending cost us the tie. Aswell as the penalty in the 1st game, and the general reffing over the tie.
Title: Spurs Vs Sevilla
Post by: Daniisco on April 17, 2007, 10:22:35 PM
Referring cost us the first game, but bad defender and lack of concentration in the opening minutes cost us the second game.
