Nuno Espirito Santo is spreading confidence amongst the players and fans!
By Peter J Arnold
Talking to fans, reading what they say, and hearing what our players think of our new Head Coach seems all constructive. Our players, in particular, are encouraged by Nuno Espirito Santo’s arrival and promising approach.
According to the well-established sports journal, The Athletic, our players have been feeling very upbeat over the appointment of our new Head Coach.
I know it has taken a while to make an appointment, but those things should not be rushed. After dropping down from the dizzy heights of the Champions League, then to the Europa League and finally now playing in the Europa Conference, we had to make sure that whoever was going to replace Mourinho was the right one to take us all the way back up.
I know fans were a bit concerned that Nuno was not our first choice, or even second or third, but near the bottom of the list, but that does not make him any less a Coach than those nearer the top. But I understand why there is apprehension out there amongst the supporters, as I was as well; nevertheless, now he is in place, I feel the positiveness out there.
I also hear such clear vibes from the players, such as wanting to ‘knuckle down’ and, of course, Nuno’s changing the training/ fitness method, which so rattled some of the players under Mourinho chaotic regime. So it all seems undoubtedly a step in the right direction for everybody concerned. This is also good news for Nuno, who will want the support of his players after the turbulent period under the “chosen one”.
Those players that are not on international duty returned to pre-season training on Monday (July 5th ). We play our first friendly in over ten days time against Leyton Orient when the fans get a good look at Nuno and his team. Granted, not all will be on show, as those involved in the Euro’s competition will be first revealed to the crowd (plus any new recruits) in our first game of the Premier League season.
Prediction
All optimistic stuff for the start of the new season. I do not know if we will make top four this season (depending on the player we get), but I am sure we will go for it. Nevertheless, I shall make a bold prediction, and that is a top-four place and hopefully a trophy or three on the way. Granted, I do not ask for much, but I am in a positive mood, so why not?
