Numbers and superstitions seem to go hand-in-hand where football players are concerned… so is Bale superstitious, or just likes numbers or both, just all wrapped up in a Bale conundrum for the fans to unravel? You never know! John Terry admitted that he has ‘around 50’ superstitions. Weird! Pele’s superstition is shirts. One of these players is a legend the other is somebody who is just delusional. But you get my drift, so to Bale… Over his career he has had/used different numbers at different times in his career… but why? In my blog I have a look at Bale and the numbers game.
But just for you, here and now, I’ve given you a little taster.

Is he superstitious, are you superstitious? Does it matter? Bertrand Russell, famous philosopher said this about superstition, “Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To Conquer Fear is the beginning of wisdom.” On the other side of the coin, Groucho Mark said, “If a black cat crosses your path, it signifies that the animal is going somewhere.” What am I talking about? Well, our new recruit Mr Bale is to wear the number nine shirt after signing (again) for us, which will be Bale’s fourth different squad number at the club. Is it because he is superstitious? Or just likes playing the numbers game and putting the cat amongst the pigeons? It wouldn’t be the first time that players have played mind games with their supporters (in a nice way of course).
When he was first at our club, he had the number 16 shirt. It took 25 attempts for him to be on the winning side, that is over the course of two years. Martin Jol signed…

My name is Glenn Renshaw.
I am currently a Premium Season Ticket holder (West Stand) in the new stadium. Before that – at White Hart Lane – a season ticket holder in various parts of the ground (mainly in the North stand).
Before becoming a season ticket holder, I stood on the shelf and various other parts of the ground since the 1950s. In 1987 I became one of the first to hold a Spurs Membership card. I was also a life long member of the Spurs supporters club (now defunct).
I go to all home, away and abroad matches.
I was born in 1955, Edgware, London (it was in the late 50s – as a baby – that my dad took me to Spurs to initiate me). I currently live in Berkshire.
I also collect all Spurs books (and have everyone printed), Spurs handbooks (from 1920s onwards, Spurs programmes (since the 40s).
Previously, I wrote for Spurs Fanzines: The Spur, Spur of the Moment, My Eyes have seen the Glory and various other Spurs fanzines’. I also wrote for the SpursWeb app & its website.
I currently write and work for spursnetwork.com and its website. I write its Reviews & Match reports and a lot more.
My other interests are; reading, history, social history, Politics, going to the gym, wine, going out for a meal, music (all sorts), writing, theatre, concerts, going on holidays, socialising etc.
