Who could Spurs face in the Europa League draw in the third qualifying round if we make it?
Following the draw for the second round of Europa League qualifying (held Monday), we have now discovered who we could be facing in the third round; that is if we get through the first hurdle.
As I reported on Monday, we travel to Bulgaria to take on Lokomotiv Plovdiv (September 1), just a few days after our opening game of the season, which will be against Everton. Beat Lokomotive Plovdiv, and we will progress to the third qualifying round. This will be played on September 24. I have now learned that we will either come up against FC Botosani (Romania) or Macedonian club FK Shkendija in the third round, depending on who comes out on top in the clash between the two teams.
The matches will be played away from home. This will mean another exhausting journey to eastern Europe.
Thoughts
Two excursions to easter Europe in just over a week isn’t going to help Mourinho, however, he is going to have to suck it up and deal with it as best as he can. He knows what the prize is at the end of the rainbow. And no fans to accompany him. Even though we expect to win, always be prepared for banana skins scattered beneath the players’ feet.
