Gallas Signs New Deal

William Gallas has agreed a two-year contract extension with Tottenham, the club have confirmed.

The 33-year-old Frenchman made the surprise move to White Hart Lane after his contract with fierce rivals Arsenal expired last summer, and he has played a key role is Spurs’ superb campaign that sees them fifth in the Premier League and in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “The club is delighted to announce that William Gallas has signed a two-year contract extension which runs until 2013.

“The experienced France defender has impressed at the heart of our defence since joining the club in the summer following the expiration of his contract at Arsenal at the end of the 2009/10 campaign.

“A two-time Premier League title winner with Chelsea, William has made 28 appearances in our colours to date as well as captaining the side on occasions in both the Premier League and Champions League this season.”

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp recently paid tribute to the former Arsenal and Chelsea man, telling the Daily Telegraph: “He has been top class. He’s a nice man, a quiet man who just gets on with it.

“He could have gone abroad during the summer and made money, but the deal he did with us was an awful lot less than he was on at Arsenal.

“He has been one of the signings of the season. He has been magnificent for us and has played nearly all the games.”
