Spurs are without Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart for Saturday’s trip to Sunderland. Bale remains sidelined with a back injury and a calf problem rules out Van der Vaart, but both men are expected to be fit for the Champions League clash with AC Milan on Tuesday night.

Peter Crouch has overcome a back problem that forced him out of the England friendly in midweek, but Luka Modric misses out because of appendicitis.

And Spurs boss Harry Redknapp continues to be without Ledley King (groin), Younes Kaboul (knee) and Tom Huddlestone (ankle).

Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon has overcome a knee problem and is expected to face Tottenham.

Jordan Henderson is doubtful with groin and hamstring problems, and boss Steve Bruce remains without several players through injury, including Michael Turner (knee), captain Lee Cattermole (back) and Danny Welbeck (hamstring).
