Redknapp confirms Huddlestone setback

Harry Redknapp has admitted he may have to cope without midfield anchor Tom Huddlestone for the rest of the season.

The  midfielder has been sidelined with an ankle injury since November and Huddlestone has suffered another setback in his recovery and Redknapp has confirmed he may miss out on the revised 25-man Premier League squad, which must be submitted before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Monday. He said:

“Tom’s had a setback and it seems he’s going to be longer than we expected.

“His ankle is sore. He tried to do a bit of running and is still a long way away.

“We will have to look at his situation with regard to the 25 man squad.

“I am hoping he’ll be OK as he is important to us and is a fantastic player.

“We need him but we will have to make sure how it goes and discuss it with the medical people.”

However, Redknapp claims he will not seek to sign a midfielder to fill the void left by Huddlestone during the January window, despite the fact Spurs are involved in a battle to secure fourth spot in the league as well as the Champions League, with Spurs drawn to play AC Milan in the first knock-out round.
