Harry Redknapp picked out William Gallas for special praise as his Tottenham side continued their excellent Champions League form with an easy 3-0 victory against Werder Bremen at White Hart Lane.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea defender was exceptional as Spurs built on previous home wins in the competition against Young Boys, FC Twente and Inter Milan.
Gareth Bale missed a penalty and hit the crossbar twice while Younes Kaboul, Luka Modric and Peter Crouch all got on the scoresheet. After the match, a delighted Redknapp said of Frenchman Gallas:
“I thought he was fantastic again.
” Marin had him square around the box in the second half on the break at one point and I thought, ‘We’re in trouble here’, but he shuffled him down the line, held him up and took it off him.
“It was a little bit reminiscent of Bobby (Moore) doing that to Jairzinho in the World Cup. He stayed on his feet and didn’t go to ground. I made him captain again and he responded to that, I think. He has been fantastic ever since he got here.
“We have played some great football here. Overall it was a good night for us again. We scored four against Young Boys, four against Twente, scored three against Milan and three tonight. We have played some great games, created some great chances and played some attractive football here.
“We have to keep going. We have players here who can play in any team. Look at Gareth Bale, he could play in any team, Modric could and so could a few others I think. We have some outstanding players here.”
