We won… just, but we won. And whatever criticism we want to vent at Spurs or Pochettino or even the board that is now by-the-by and our main objective (one of many) has been achieved; a top-four place. We are currently third and because of Chelsea bottling it, we have been confirmed as one of three teams that will be in the UEFA Champions League. The other place will be decided this Sunday when Liverpool and Chelsea play their final games.

The game was up and down with us playing well, then not so well and then… but it ended in our favour, and that is what counts. Therefore the crowd went home Ecstatic and relieved that we are going to play top-flight European football.
Hugo Lloris said qualifying for the Champions League next season "means more than a trophy" after Spurs beat Newcastle at Wembley to confirm their top-four place. Harry Kane scored the game's only goal to take us third with one game remaining, four points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea, who could only draw with Huddersfield.

We will finish the campaign without silverware but the win means they qualify for the Champions League for a third successive season. It also guarantees that we will finish the season as London's top club for the first time since 1995, despite playing our home games at Wembley while their White Hart Lane home is redeveloped.

We disappointed for much of the game against Newcastle but Kane beautifully guided a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box in the 50th minute. Newcastle had created the better openings in the first half with Jonjo Shelvey hitting the post from a free-kick and Jamaal Lascelles' header forcing a good save from Lloris.

Our fans had become increasingly frustrated before Kane's goal continued the lacklustre form of recent weeks which had put our Champions League qualification in jeopardy.
Newcastle continued to impress after going behind and Jacob Murphy should have equalised but he smashed his shot from inside the area over the bar moments after coming off the bench.

A few probably will leave/ replaced with new blood coming in and hopefully we will start the new season with fresh impetus.
Our next and last match will be against Leicester City (who beat Ars*nal 3-1) and to make sure that we finish third we must defeat them. Either that or Liverpool lose.

We won in a poor performance by us last night. Watching the match we certainly didn’t show quality. After the second goal went in we picked up and started to play well, but quickly fell back to a lethargic performance.

There were many times That Watford could have scored and to our luck didn’t quite manage it. We need to buck our ideas up if we want to finish in third position. We are now five points ahead of Chelsea, but more significantly only 1 point behind Liverpool with a game in hand. Our performance didn’t give us or show us confidence for our next match, WBA.

We need to beat Albion and beat them well. Yes, they have suddenly started stringing results together but we must show our superiority and win comfortably. If we want to be regarded as a top-four club then we need to beat teams like WBA, Newcastle United and Leicester City.

To the match: Mauricio Pochettino praised the "massive" win as we move closer to securing qualification for next season's Champions League. Goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane gave us a scrappy victory last night that took us five points clear of Chelsea with only three matches to play.

We capitalised on an error from Hornets goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis as Christian Eriksen set up Alli to score from 12 yards out. Kane doubled our lead early in the second half from Kieran Trippier's pull-back and Jan Vertonghen later headed against the post.

Hugo Lloris denied Andre Gray and Richarlison, with the Brazilian also shooting over from six yards out. After criticism from fans and press alike for recent errors, the man did well last night.

As for the visitors, they still not guaranteed Premier League safety and this defeat extended their winless run to seven matches.

This weekend's important matches are WBA v Spurs, Brighton v United and Chelsea v Liverpool. The Chelsea/ Liverpool win is interesting, a draw would probably be ideal, but also a win either way will help us, that is providing we beat WBA.

Spurs are fourth in the league, that is what has been happening, plus we are two games spare over Liverpool.

A great result for sure. As you say Voice, the first half we were not so good. 2nd half we went 442 when Wanyama and Winks went off, and what a difference for Dier ! He was back to his best, clearly playing CB doesn't suit him. If we are gonna play 3 at back, then bring in Wimmer.

I saw photos of Jimmy Yesturday with he's family back at the Lane on social media, A true legend. Sad to see him with he's illness.

I saw them as well. He said he won't be able to walk again. Sad.

A good weekend for us. Not only did we beat Burnley – a hard ground to go to – but we won by two goals. On top of that Chelsea lost at home to Crystal Palace 2-1. This reduces the points gap between first place and 2nd place to 7 pts.
We struggled in a drab first half as Dele Alli fired wide when well-placed and both central midfielders Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks were withdrawn through injury. Winks suffered a particularly nasty fall, tumbling into the Burnley dugout after trying to tackle Stephen Ward, before he was carried off on a stretcher at the interval.
Despite a lack of attacking fluency, we continued to exert pressure on the Clarets from corners, with Eric Dier firing in after the hosts failed to properly clear Christian Eriksen's delivery. Vincent Janssen, making his first Premier League start of 2017, became the third Tottenham player forced off injured but that allowed the introduction of Son Heung-min. And the South Korea striker made sure of victory as he tapped in Alli's squared pass on 77 minutes as Spurs controlled the final stages. Victory, coupled with Chelsea's shock 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, ensures Mauricio Pochettino's side stay in contention for the title with nine games remaining.

Mini-Update

CHAMPIONSHIP

Bye-bye Rotherham (17). :P They lost 1-0 to Fulham, putting them far enough behind Bristol City (41) that they are now guaranteed relegation... and there's still seven matches left!

LEAGUE ONE

Sheffield United (82) is now guaranteed at least a playoff spot after beating Millwall (63).

LEAGUE TWO

I'd say the league is far enough along that I can introduce the bar of safety. With six matches remaining, the bar of safety sits at 54 points, and Accrington Stanley (55) are only the latest club to pass that point mark, having beating Plymouth Argyle (75) in an upset win.

NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH

PHEW! That was close! I thought Altrincham (17) might actually have a chance of staying afloat! But no, they're down to the feeders officially. :P Salford City (67) condemned them to their fate with a 2-1 win earlier today, while keeping their own playoff situation alive. (Just for context, three matches have been played by most teams since last update.) Stalybridge Celtic (20) is still alive for now, as they have only played 34 matches to most teams' 37. Bar of safety is 46 points.

NATIONAL LEAGUE SOUTH

With just five matches remaining, both Margate and Bishop's Stortford (both 24) are teetering dangerously close to relegation. Depending on what Whitehawk, Weston-super-Mare, and Truro (all 36) do in their next match or two, they could be out with just a single loss. The bar of safety is 47 points.

FEEDERS

Since it's late in the season, I can also start throwing in upper-table situations from the Isthmian, Southern, and Northern Premier Leagues.

Isthmian

Really a two-horse race at this point. Yes, Leiston (68) can still theoretically catch the two front-runners because of two games in hand, but on their current form, it seems very unlikely. So it's down to Bognor Regis (85) and Havant & Waterlooville (84) for top spot. Besides, Leiston has more pressing matters to worry about, like staying in the playoffs in the midst of a playoff logjam that's tighter than an undersized pair of shorts! :P

(All teams have played 42 matches unless otherwise indicated)

(40) 3. Leiston - 68, +35
4. Tonbridge Angels - 68, +12
5. Needham Market - 68, -3
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
(40) 6. Dulwich Hamlet - 67
7. Enfield Town - 66, +24
8. Billericay Town - 66, +22
9. Wingate & Finchley - 66, +1
10. Harlow Town - 64

Southern League

All the teams who are anywhere close to playoffs have played 42 matches, meaning there are just four to play in the regular season, and Chippenham (94) seem to be unstoppable at this point, having gone without losing since last mid-December. What's better, they've only dropped two points since January 10th, winning fourteen of their last fifteen! Leamington (88) was doing okay at keeping a step behind until quite recently, drawing against Hitchin (83) and losing a close one to playoff dark-horse hopefuls Frome (70).

Speaking of playoffs, it's getting down to the wire. Kettering (66) is such an outside shot that they literally need to win every single game to have a remote chance! A draw for Merthyr Town (77) or a win for Banbury United (76, first team outside) would eliminate them. Frome isn't doing much better. They may be only seven back compared to Kettering's eleven, but they also have Banbury between them and the promised land. Frome can't catch either Hitchin or Slough (also 83), so they have to get Merthyr and pass Banbury in the process. I honestly think it'll come down to Merthyr and Banbury for the last spot, and that Slough and Hitchin have very little to worry about.

Northern Premier

In spite of a couple recent losses, Blyth Spartans (88) are well ahead of the pack in first. If not for Spennymoor's (71) games in hand, they would actually be able to clinch the Northern Premier championship with either a draw, or a draw by Nantwich (74). But they need to add at least a win to that, or a Spennymoor loss. :P

Of course, there's also the playoff picture, which isn't quite as jammed up as the Isthmian League's, but still is very close:

(41) 2. Nantwich - 74
(41) 3. Stourbridge - 72
(39) 4. Spennymoor - 71, +36
(42) 5. Warrington - 71, +9
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
(41) 6. Whitby - 69
(40) 7. Buxton - 68, +26
(41) 8. Matlock - 68, +12
(41) 9. Grantham - 67
(39) 10. Workington - 64

Warrington is at a distinct disadvantage here, from having played more matches and having inferior goal differential to the almost all the teams surrounding them on both sides! (Whitby is only +8, though, putting them at something of a disadvantage as well.)
