UEFA Champions League 2010-11

Anderlecht, Sevilla, and poor Sampdoria = EPIC FAIL. Anyone see the three Anderlecht PK's sail over the bar? And Sampdoria was up 3-0 against Werder Bremen before allowing the equalizer in injury time only to lose in the extra period.

Sevilla's elimination is huge and causes a bit of a shake up in the seeding alignment. If I'm not mistaken that moves Lyon into the top group. If Zenit and Copenhagen advance they would move up a group as well. Zenit would move out of Group 3 (Spurs group) and into Group 2. And Copenhagen would move out of the bottom group. Lyon has to be loving that. I could be wrong, but that's how I'm reading the UEFA coefficients.

Sevilla out thats huge, Fabiano is eligible to play should we make it past Young Boys, which is no means guaranteed, we have seen some upset results, anything can happen, if we make it past them we have to buy Fabiano, regardless of his age, he is a top player that could take us to new heights, and would be pivotal to our maiden CL voyage, could see him bagging 20 easy in EPL, but it almost seems to good to be true, but maybe its destiny lol, I know that last bit was corny, but tonight is what dreams are made of, or nightmares, come on Spurs.

I expect a packed house, and even if you can't get in, parade around WHL in your thousands, like a white army, ahh sounds a bit racist but u know what I mean, no riots although fellas, we are on the world stage at the moment, try and unsettle Young Boys by our sheer numbers and support outside the ground, let them know who's territory their in, where the enemy team bus!!, but no riots lol.

I downloaded UEFA CL rules to make sure he is eligible, there are as follows

http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/Regulations/competitions/Regulations/01/48/42/49/1484249_DOWNLOAD.pdf

X Player Eligibility
Article 18
General provisions
18.01 In order to be eligible to participate in the UEFA club competitions, players
must be registered with UEFA within the requested deadlines to play for a
club and fulfil all the conditions set out in the following provisions. Only
eligible players can serve pending suspensions.
18.02 Players must be duly registered with the national association concerned in
accordance with the national association’s own rules and those of FIFA,
notably the FIFA Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players.
18.03 Players must have undergone a medical examination in accordance with the
mandatory criteria as set out in Annex IX.
18.04 Each club is responsible for submitting an A list of players (List A) and a B list
of players (List B), duly signed, to its national association for verification,
validation, signature and forwarding to UEFA. These lists must include the
name, date of birth, shirt number and name, nationality and national
registration date of all players to be fielded in the UEFA club competition in
question. In addition, the lists must include the confirmation by the club’s
doctor that all players have undergone the requested medical examination;
the club’s doctor is solely responsible that the requested players’ medical
examination has been duly performed.
18.05 The club bears the legal consequences for fielding a player who is not
named on list A or B, or who is otherwise not eligible to play.
18.06 The UEFA administration decides on questions of player eligibility.
Challenged decisions are dealt with by the Control and Disciplinary Body.
18.07 As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA
Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for
more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally,
however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second or third qualifying
round of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to
play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another
club as from the group stage, provided that his former club did not qualify for
the group phase of either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa
League; moreover, as from the start of the round of 16 (round of 32 for UEFA
Europa League), a player can be registered in accordance with paragraphs
18.17 to 18.20 below. For the avoidance of doubt, a substitute player who
has not been fielded is entitled to play for another club competing in the
UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League in the course of the
same season, provided that he is registered with the UEFA administration in
accordance with the present regulations.

I think the Fabiano deal will go through, especially now Defoe is injured and if he isn't cup tied

How about this sick draw?

Inter                  #1 in Pot 1 and reigning champs
Werder Bremen #1 in Pot 2
SPURS                #1 in Pot 3
FC Twente         #2 in Pot 4

If they did it a thousand more times that couldn't happen again. What kills me is that the media DOES NOT believe this is the so-called "group of death"! Three top seeds and a two. How could it NOT be the toughest group? So much disrespect for Spurs and Bremen...

they are right though Wilson...our group might not be a pushover, but no group is.  Group G is an absolutely evil group and is rightly labeled the group of death, is is the Brazil, Portugal, Ivory Coast and North Korea of the Champions League.

AC Milan
Real Madrid
Ajax
AJ Auxerre

That's just nasty.

I feel bad for Auxerre. They're good, but they are up against three of the game's most legendary clubs.

I'd love to be a fly in Ars*nal's dressing room just to see Wenger after the Gooners managed to lose 0:2 to Braga. Oh glory days.  :2funny:

Well, we are already in the last 16 along with Inter.

So here's how each group looks:

Group A: done deal. Yid Army joining Inter in the last 16. Possible, but astronomically improbable, for Werder to go Europa - they'd have to beat Inter by eight and hope our boys beat Twente. (Which they should, but let's not count our chickens before they've hatched. ;))

Group B: Schalke 04 ::) is moving on. Advantage Lyon in the battle for the second spot - Benfica has to win by six against Schalke AND hope Lyon lose to last-place Hapoel. One point for the Lyonnais and it's off to the Europa for Benfica... provided Hapoel doesn't pull off said shocker against Lyon, in which case they'd be going home, period.

Group C: done deal. Man U and Valencia going on. Rangers into Europa. Bursaspor going home.

Group D: Barcelona moving on. Panathinaikos going home. So it's down to Rubin and København, but the odds are stacked in the latter's favour - one point advantage plus Rubin is playing Barça while FCK is only playing Pana. :P Even though Hutch is with PSV now, I'm still gonna cheer for the Danish side here.

Group E: Bayern's through and it seems like Roma will join them. Still a mathematical possibility for Basel to go through though - they simply have to beat Bayern and hope Roma loses to Cluj. On the other hand, Cluj has to beat Roma by seven and hope Basel loses to have a hope in hell of going to Euro. Gee, I wonder which one's more probable? [/sarcasm]

Group F: Chel$ki's been perfect thus far, so of course they're through :P Marseille is all but through as well - a point against Chelsea will do it - but Spartak has to absolutely murder Žilina AND Chelsea has to beat Marseille in order for Spartak to do anything more than drop into Europa. Žilina... puh-LEASE! You think they're going anywhere but home?

Group G: almost a done deal. Real Madrid and AC Milan are through, so the real question's who's dropping to Europa and who's going home. Auxerre and Ajax are running mighty close!

Group H: Closest thing to a group of death we've had, even though Partizan are getting the snot beat out of them at the bottom :P It might irk you, then, to know that that's who Ars*nal are playing next. Braga's a bit of a long-shot to make it, but if Partizan somehow beats Ars*nal, they can move on with a draw. Shakhtar look like making it - only way it can't happen is if Braga beats them by nine and Ars*nal also wins.

tl;dr:

Confirmed through to the knockouts: Spurs, Inter, Schalke, Man U, Valencia, Barça, Bayern, Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan.

Can do no worse than Europa: Lyon, København, Rubin, Roma.

Confirmed going down to Europa: Rangers, Spartak

Confirmed going home: Bursaspor, Panathinaikos, Žilina, Partizan

Off the top of my head looks like these are our potential matchups depending upon whether we win at Twente.

Group Winners                               Runners-Up
-------------------                              ---------------
Barcelona                                     Copenhagen
Schalke 04                                    Lyon
Real Madrid                                   Valencia
Bayern Munich                              Milan
Shakhtar Donetsk                         Marseille
                                                     Roma

I just remembered that Ars*nal can finish no worse than Europa either, what with Partizan being astronomically epic fail during this tournament and all.
