Seville town council have requested that Tottenham's Uefa Cup quarter-final first leg tie is moved on religious grounds.Spurs are due to travel to face Sevilla on 5th April, but the game clashes with the city's Easter week celebrations.A procession is to be staged in the city on the Thursday before Easter - the day of the first leg - which is also a religious holiday in Spain."It is not just because of the number of people involved in terms of security, but also out of respect for what the procession means for so many people," council spokesman Alfonso Rodriguez Gomez de Celis said."Any day in Holy Week is difficult but the most difficult is this one. Ideally the game would not take place in Holy Week at all but we know that this will be hard to achieve."

Following confirmation by UEFA last night of our UEFA Cup quarter-final fixtures, we have this afternoon been informed by Sevilla that they will be backing a request by the Spanish authorities to change the date of the away match. We shall keep you updated as and when information becomes available.
Sevilla's request to have the first leg of their Uefa Cup quarter-final with Tottenham Hotspur switched has been rejected. The Spanish Football Federation had submitted a request to Uefa, backed by the club, to alter the 5th April date for the match. The date is a religious holiday and Seville's town council felt the game against Spurs would impinge on the city's Easter celebrations. But Uefa has decided the match must go ahead on 5th April, with the return at White Hart Lane taking place a week later.Holders Sevilla had reached the quarter-finals with an extra-time victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, while Spurs saw off Braga in the last round.
