After King picked up an abductor strain yesterday, we only have Kaboul and Bassong to play in central defence. Nice job, THFC! I understand why Woodgate was released but I cannot understand why no-one else was brought in.

We needed Gary Cahill. I don't care if he only had a year left on his contract, and Bolton were asking to much. We probably won't get the chance to get him again and it may well of cost us a top 4 finish.

Paying £5m over the odds for a top class defender is hardly the same as spending £850m on a development that may ultimately bankrupt the club. I have watched Caulker and at best he may make championship standard. Dawson is injury prone, as is King. Bassong isn't good enough, and Kaboul is really more of a right back. We were desperate for a top class centre half, and if it meant we spent over the odds we should have got him. Our defending on Sunday was terrible and this proves my points to be 100% right, as usual !!

I was actually going agree with you on this one. But this last comment is a bit self-absorbed. Yes, I would have liked us to get a CB and we were silly not too. I just hope that you are 100% wrong and HR is able to keep the squad going till Jan and then strengthen the squad with the quality to challenge for 4th or above.

Hey I wanted Cahill too, but only at the right price. I trust DML to get that much right. In a team with Gallas, King, Dawson, and even Kaboul -- how many 1st choice defefenders can you realistically keep? Cahill would have been a luxury in all fairness. We can get a player for less than half that price who will do a job for us and provide depth. I didn't suggest that Caulker was my preferred solution - but the safety. I would rather allocate those funds to keeping the players we have and bringing in a striker we want when Pavlyuchenko goes. I like Cahill a lot but English players are expensive. Making a blanket statement like, "Now we've missed top 4 because we didn't sign Cahill" when we're 7 games into the season undefeated in our last five sitting in 6th with a game in hand and just managed a fair result at St. James Park because Amoebi scores a well taken goal is just you tossing your toys about again innit?

I also agree that Cahill could have been a bit too big signing. But that's the choice the manager has to make. How do I keep my players happy when they're all fit (I've yet to see occasion like this at Spurs) and want to play and how do I guarantee that I won't be having only two fit centre-halves for some time and many competitions.

Let's hope we won't be having the usual whining about not finishing here or there or not getting the results because we didn't have enough squad depth. The club chose to sell way more than they brought in and to me that's a sheer stupidity. And about Cahill, well, you know what they say about putting all eggs in one basket.

I was a bit disappointed we didn't get Cahill, but not too badly. He's good.. Better than Bassong, but not ideal and especially not at that price. If reports are to be believed Bassong was off to QPR anyway if we'd signed Cahill, so we'd still have the same number.

I would like us to find someone good enough to cement a place in our back line next to the best of what we've already got and stay there for a number of years. Maybe that could have been Cahill, maybe it still will be, but I have a feeling it won't be.

It could be worse... At least we're not relying on Squillaci, Djourou, and Koscielny!

Well to be honest our situation with our CB's does surprise me, we have known for years King is likely to break down at any time and Daws isnt much better fitness wise.  Gallas is out so what does that leave us Kaboul!

A CB was needed in the last window, for now and future years to partner either Daws or Kaboul long term, we went for Cahill and the tag was a joke!

I hope Gallas or Daws will come back sooner than expected! TBH we are badly missing Gallas at the back this term and in all seriousness it is probably his last season too!

Like everybody else probably, in the closed season I thought a top CH was a must. Why we didn't get Garry Cahill only Harry knows. I can only presume he dosen't overrate him, in which case we must, absolutely must bring in someone else in January. King is always going to be a gamble, albeit one well worth taking. Same with Gallas. A pair of top top CH's when able to play.

I was screaming for a CB this summer in the knowledge that King would miss of lot of the games, Woody would be on his way, gallas's age would bring frequent injuries. That leaves us with Bassong, who is not the best and Dawson who whilst a good player can have zhitty games and is injured atm anyway. Two CBs hardly covers and I would like to see Harry renew his interest in Cahill come Christmas. I don't think he has lost interest, he and Levy would prefer to pay less as always.

Who will be ready to play first team footi and 2 or 3 seaons, make a big impact season 1 and be sold at a huge profit season 2 to Man U  ??

We need a solution that can slot straight in and do a job now, instead of a future transfer profit the clubs needs to look at the immediate success desired and spend a few quid!
