Really sucks that we have to open up the season at ManUtd and home to ManCity after the postponement of the Everton game. We looked ready to challenge for all three points until about 60 minutes when most of the boys just ran out of gas. Van der Vaart was clearly frustrated and playing desperate in the final 30. I can't stand listening to the United slurpfest from the commentators and now we're going to have to hear all about being bottom of the table and all that.

I went from casual watching football drinking to now I'm in a really f**king foul mood drinking in about 45 minutes.

We huffed and puffed but we didn't present a real goal threat.  We lost all belief after Lennon failed to find VdV free six yards out.
 I thought 'arry shud have made a change 10 minutes sooner than he did  Need a striker urgent. 
On de positive side Friedel looked good we're gonna need him he'll give us maybe 6 pts this season.

Manchester United swept Tottenham aside in impressive fashion as the Premier League champions made a powerful statement of intent at Old Trafford.
Spurs were without unsettled Luka Modric as he continues to be linked with a £30m move to Chelsea - and he was sadly missed as United overpowered Harry Redknapp's side after an evenly-contested first half.
Sir Alex Ferguson embarked on an expensive summer rebuilding programme, but it was United's home-grown talent that built the platform for their second successive win as they go in search of a 20th domestic title.
With England coach Fabio Capello an interested observer, Danny Welbeck headed in Tom Cleverley's cross just after the hour and the young striker then produced a wonderful instinctive flick to set up a second for Anderson.
Wayne Rooney completed the formalities with a late header to extend Spurs' miserable sequence of 22 years without a win at OId Trafford.
United's new goalkeeper David de Gea suffered more uncertain moments of handling but Phil Jones, another summer acquisition from Blackburn, ensured injured Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic were not missed with an outstanding performance.
United's new arrivals made an impact early on as Jones and Ashley Young led a sweeping counter attack before Cleverley brought a fine fingertip save from the stretching Brad Friedel on his Spurs debut.
De Gea, watched from the directors' box by his predecessor Edwin van der Sar, was a focus of attention after early blunders following his summer move from Atletico Madrid and he needed to show neat footwork as Rafael Van der Vaart threatened to catch him in possession.
Young's movement was presenting problems for Spurs and he was inches away from giving United the lead with a looping header from Rooney's cross with Friedel stranded as he scrambled back towards goal.
Spurs wasted an opportunity to strike just after the break when Aaron Lennon was desperately wasteful with a cross inside the area, an incident that saw Van der Vaart pull his shirt over his head in fury.
It was the signal for United's most concerted spell of pressure - a decisive phase of the game that eventually led to them taking the lead just after the hour.
Friedel excelled once more with a fine double save from Anderson and Rooney, but he was powerless to prevent Welbeck taking advantage of Cleverley's inviting delivery by glancing a fine header into the corner.
United were carrying all the momentum and threat, with Friedel in acrobatic action again to save Rooney's free-kick as it seemed destined for the top corner and Welbeck's ambitious overhead kick.
Welbeck was oozing confidence after his goal and he illuminated Old Trafford with his part in Anderson's second 14 minutes from time. He took Anderson's pass inside the area before delivering an instant backheel which the midfield man took in his stride to score.
Tottenham rallied briefly and Jermain Defoe volleyed against the post following a rare De Gea error, the Spaniard flapping at a cross and allowing the Spurs striker to strike the woodwork from the angle.
But Rooney's third was simply confirmation of United's superiority as they move into second place behind neighbours Manchester City in the table.

Honestly, was really surprised that Harry debuted Livermore this game.

I know this is old, but this game to me highlighted everything that's wrong with Harry's team selection, and yes, I know that we've got a bit of a crisis in midfield with no healthy holding mids...

But if you've got no healthy holding mids and United are running kids out at center-half and their keeper's been dodgy in the air, WHY NOT JUST F*CKING GO FOR IT and run out Huddlestone and Niko with Crouch and just tell the lads to pepper De Gea, take shots from everywhere, whip in balls up high? I feel like he played Livermore cuz he felt we had to have a holding mid but to be frank i'd rather have lost that game 5-2 than 3-0. We came out defensive and flat in the first half and were made to pay for it.

I think your being very unfair to Livermore he was one of our better players last night, the problem wasn't anything to do with him or even us going for it or not. The problem is a deep seated problem that we have suffered from for the last season or so in fact ever since we beat Wigan 9-0 we can't score. We created several decent chances last night and failed with unnerving accuracy to convert any of them, that's the problem not a young midfielder doing a very decent job in the midfield.
 
Before you single out a player for critism take a look at the big picture and get the facts straight we played well last night for an hour but I fear a lack of a killer finish and competative matches done for us along with the Modric cloud now hanging over us like a heavy smog !!!!!

Yeah, Livermore played well considering how he was thrown into the deep end. How do you figure that a team with Defoe, vdV, Bale, Lennon, and Kranjcar is not offense-minded and "going for it"? Besides what choice did Harry have? Huddlestone is clearly not 100% and looked a little slow when he did get out there. In addition to completely running out of gas because we've only played one JV game up to this point, the pairing of Hudd and Rafa in the middle is never going to work. Especially against a team like United. And Crouch wasn't even on the bench. He's "injured".

I've said it time and again. Modric doesn't get enough credit for his defense. All those passes that United were intercepting. That's the sort of thing that Luka does for us. And with him out there, the initial ball which creates an opportunity and slices through a defense while putting them back on their heels might have been made. He has fantastic positional awareness and allows Huddlestone to be a deep-lying playmaker. Rafa is just going to leave Tom out to dry and Niko only slightly less so. Hell, was it just me or did Kranjcar's body language look funny? He didn't play terrible but he didn't look real energetic either. He didn't seem "present" to me - which is shocking given the enormous opportunity at hand.
