Falcao - the answer to our goalscoring problems??
« on: April 29, 2011, 07:37:34 PM »
I have been following Porto's progress in the Europa cup this season and I have to say that Falcao has blown me away every time I have seen him play. Prolific in the league as well as the Europa league - where he has scored THREE hatricks, including 4 against Villareal last night, he scores with both feet and his head, has excellent off the ball movement and will also chase down defenders. His teammate Hulk gets more attention but is a one trick pony. If I were Harry it would be Falcao who topped my list of wanted strikers.
What are your thoughts???

I agree 100 % here ive said it in other articles, if we want a striker who can score goals, he will do it. Set up goals and create, he will do it. Play lone striker he will do it. Hes the answer indeed

Must admit not seen very much of him play, maybe 2 or 3 games..... but if he does what it says on the tin then yes why not !!!!!

I'm not really familiar with him either. He kind of sounds like a bird/human hybrid.

Is this him?

Portuguese league is not as strong as Premier League so I'd say he's pretty much untested. One simply cannot be 100% sure on him. He could be the next big thing and could as well be the next Postiga.

Fair point but you dont score nearly 20 goals in the Europa cup without being able to play and mark my words if we don't sign him, the team that do will reap huge rewards.

I haven't seen much of him but his record in Portugal and the Europa League is impressive. Would be great to sign him quickly as if he can bring his goalscoring record to the Premier League, he could be exactly what we need.

Regrettably, he has said he wants to play for Chelsea and as they have a new Portuguese caoch I reckon he'll go there....will be good for any club in the EPL

@RiffHard while I agree with you that the Portuguese league isn't as strong as the EPL, to say that Falcao is "completely untested" because of this is exceedingly harsh. He's scored 41 goals for them in 50 appearances, I don't care if you're playing the Little Sisters of Mercy, that's a f*ckin impressive goalscoring record. I'm hoping he doesn't follow Villas-Boas to Chelsea, but if he does, you'd have to think they'll be unloading one or both of Drogba/Anelka, and I hope we can be there to snap them up.

I said 'pretty much untested' not 'completely untested'.  ;)

'Pretty much untested' would be enough for me at the moment. Unfortunately, the amounts that are being suggested for this player rules us out from the off. We either need to take more chances with up and coming talent, before their value prices us out of the market or we need to bite the bullet and spend more on someone who is well and truly tested.

I've been saying that we'd never get Sturridge, but if Falcao actually goes to Chelsea then where does that leave Sturridge? The strange thing is that I feel like Chelsea will have the same problem even if they bring in new strikers. Essien isn't at his best, Lampard isn't getting any younger. They need a Modric type more than United do. They certainly need a Modric type of player more than they do Falcao.

I'd be thrilled to get Drogba or Sturridge to be honest. I feel like what we immediately need is a Drogba, but it would be great to get someone like Sturridge.

Cant see Chelsea doing any business with us even if they have strikers that they want to get shot off!

If we showed interest in any they would want Modders in a cash plus player deal so they get their man!
