Interesting statistics

I find it interesting all the attention given to Torres, Rooney and Drogba who are all apparently in slumps this season. Look at their PL stats compared to our strikers so far this season:

• Torres: 25 games / 9 goals / 2 assists
• Drogba: 25 games / 9 goals / 8 assists
• Rooney: 17 games / 5 goals / 10 assists

• Defoe: 13 games / 0 goals / 2 assists
• Crouch: 26 games / 2 goals / 7 assists
• Pav: 20 games / 6 goals / 1 assist

Here's another interesting stat:
Van der vaart: 19 games / 10 goals / 6 assists

Imagine what our league position and goal difference would look like this season if we hadn't signed VDV. I do see the logic in continuing with Defoe as he usually scores in sprees (and we don't have much choice), but these stats really need to improve!

Wey hey this is getting messy aint it, in defense of my true fellow THFC supporters they are only sticking it to GK for the crap he is posting so in all fairness Mods send him a little email warning or sumin cos its getting beyond a joke the crap he spills and insults aimed at fellow members of true supporters of our club, players, coaches etc.

Some interesting stats outlining what we know with some facts...... our strikers are misfiring big time Defoe shocking, Crouch expected as teh EPL teams can handle him easily and Pav doesnt get enough games ahead of Arrys 2 favs, we rely on other sources for goals and VdV was the f**king bargain of the decade followed by Kran!

This post begs the question WHY our strikers have failed so miserably in front of goal.

There are no doubts all 3 are goal scorers - previous seasons show this...

My theory(s) are....

Pav in my opinion hasn't had enough games of late to get the match sharpness so he has been rusty and uninterested when he does start.

Defoe was injured for quite a while before Xmas and then got suspended following his red card vs Villa. So he has struggled to find that rich vain of form we all crave from JD. Having said that he has started a number of games recently so I think goals are coming - he looked lively last night which is good.

Crouchy in my opinion should be used to change a game in which we are struggling.  He seems to impact a game better coming on instead of starting. Teams have a game plan for Crouchy when he starts but if he comes on he has more of an impact. Crouchy always does well in Europe purly as teams dont know how to defend against him, he record in the CL and in International proves this.

So my outcome would be to play Pav with JD and crouch to come on if it not going to plan simples ( if only it was that easy...)

thats a very good and enlightened question Puchi.... so well done for rising above the usual forment..... why indeed do our normally goalscoring strikers struggle this season ??

heres the answer:-

when Vaart plays, he usuallly drifts far too far into midfield, sometimes on in line with the CBs even, it happens all the time... when that happens it isolates the true striker upfront with 2 CBs to battle, while Vaart is snailing along in midfield to little effect....

when Vaart does score, its cos the true striker has drawn both CBs away and left Vaart with tap-ins or similar when he arrives late in the box..... this is great for Vaart, but the rest of the team has to work very hard to create those SPECIFIC types of chances to score from, rather than use a variety of options, any of which will suit better for a number of chances we could create of more quality and frequency.... its like trying to finish a game of darts with a bulleye hit always, rather than go for easier 'doubles'....

our strikers (and team) are better off without Vaart in the mid-long-term, yesterday proved it to me.... even with very limited appearances the Defoe-Pav pairing in a 4-4-2 proper produced more chances than an average game using Vaart with a striker..... the fact that we didnt actually score more is mainly  irrrelevant, as that was hugely down to luck on Blackpool's side...... we created about 12 clear-cut chances (a fantastic return for an away game)...

again.... I write this to amuse myself, cos I know you are all blind to anything beyond the totally obvious.... in fact, you'd make great tabloid journalists methinks.
