Barclays Premier League – Sat 22nd Jan – KO 15:00 – Ground: St James’ Park

Aaron Lennon scored in added time as Tottenham snatched a 1-1 draw at Newcastle United.

Newcastle started brightly but Shola Ameobi was off-target with an effort before Leon Best beat Sebastien Bassong to a Jose Enrique cross only to see his header strike the visitors’ crossbar.

Spurs, who lost star man Gareth Bale to what appeared to be a back injury, took until the 45th minute to test Steve Harper, with the Newcastle goalkeeper saving well from Jermain Defoe.

Tottenham debutant Steven Pienaar was denied by a superb block from Fabricio Coloccini, and it was the Argentinian who made an impact at the other end, chesting down a Danny Guthrie pass before firing Toon in front.

Peter Lovenkrands forced a fine save from Carlo Cudicini as Spurs looked prone to being caught on the break as they sought an equaliser, and the Italian was then called into action to push an Ameobi effort around the post.

But a Spurs equaliser was looking increasingly likely as Harper made a string of fine saves and Luka Modric clattered the crossbar, and it came in added time when Lennon cut inside and fired past Harper.

  1. It is now obvious that we need a striker. Defoe and Crouch did nothing for me today.
Oh how we missed Gareth. Steven P hasn’t slotted in he will need more time.

  2. Start the ball rolling i have warned my fellow fans till my rant gets me down but if more fans don’t start questioning all these shock then they will keep happening . Firstly Newcastle had players missing and yet it made no different to there performance, secondly i have commented how teams tempo rises when they look like they could get beat before the interval. This is the problem with the premiership and all the shock results i reported a team two seasons ago for using energy and they have nosedived ever since then. Now they are on there way back full of an energetic away win 3-0. I no who are using this energy and the sines are this blocks save and players would would not expect to score loads of weight loss red overheated faces and also down the neck. These teams can have loads of changes and there Tempo and performance stays the same when they defend there is atleast six or more players in the box and the same ammont attacking like robots. I hate watching these teams and with desperation its rising by the week and all our fans are ranting for more strikers and defenders ts a joke and Newcastle and other teams who had loads missing are proof more players are not the answer and Man City will find that out. The problem the FA are turning the other way while energised Utd walk away witht the title because of there massive dept.
